Thread: Pack for Wapiti Ballot

Looking for a bigger pack for the 10 day mission, would 90L-100L be the ideal size or could you go 80L. Any one had experience with the 100L Osprey? Any pack recommendations?

Fuck carrying a pack that big you must hate your knees to carry that much shit. Have just been testing a few packs I have here the past week or so with all gear for wapiti ballot and I'll be taking 65l macpac

Ryan _Songhurst, I know it says full of shit under your name! But your reckon to can get 10dsy worth of food and gear in 65L. Would love to know ur food options.

That's one of the reao benefits of a well designed pack that can compress right down with a dedicated meat shelf like an Exo. You can pack all your equipment in the main bag and pack your food in a dry bag on the meat shelf.

I've done two with macpac torre 80 litre. Heaps of room spare mates had 70 litres and was ok first couple days they were pretty full but gets better. The trick is to take less gear. Lots of little things add up

Big packs but very light, utilise the space you need.

On this trip I had 2 caped out bull tahr + my gear for day hunting. Compare the weights to the macpacs mentioned...

I would rather have an 80L pack a bit empty than a 65L one full to bursting ...

65L or 70L pack for a 10 day Fiordland trip is do-able.... but it all turns to custard if you achieve your goal and need to start lugging a green Wapiti headskin for several days

Doesn't matter how big my pack is I'd not be putting any skin inside it anyhow

Expandable to 160L! And twice as tall as the shoulder straps. When would you need that much space? Not to mention the weight you could load into it.

Yeah I personally use a 6000cu in kuiu for everything. That supposedly about 90 litres but doesn’t feel like a big pack.

As for food, dehy is really the only option for most meals plus some bars/cheese/salami if you like.

Don’t take to much gas as its bulky, don’t take to many clothes.

I’ve recently changed to the 5500 model.

A 65 litre pack bursting at the seems can start to feel uncomfortable. Better to have a slightly bigger pack that isn’t maxed out.

The weight of the empty pack is pretty critical
