The Pikau/ Veshmeshok
Since reading about them I've become increasingly intrigued by the pikau. Seems like a nice wee bag to carry the essentials in and haunches out.
Seems the Russians have their own version, the 'Veshmeshok' which judging by the longevity of their other military gear, has been around a while!

Anyone got pics of their Pikau?

I have a pikau that we use as a day pack when away on a trip, but to be honest it is terrible for carrying meat in. It’s fine for carrying your everyday hunting items but not designed for carrying any real load in and is bloody uncomfortable.
-
Straps used to cut through my shoulders with any real weight, but I still have a "fancy" manufactured one in the cupboard, the old sack ones have all rotted away with age.

Found them good as daybag, crap with meat on board.

I use a Pikau as meat bag, but I tend to bone out my animals more or less. It sits in a pouch on my belt when not in use.

Attachment 162246Attachment 162247 I can fit front half of deer in this easy.....or take strap off and use it as carry strap (Alex Gale style) and tuck the sack in body cavity.
fitted both hams and boned out rest of 140lb boar in it...but man it was tight fit...actually tied wee knot in fabric to stop straps pulling off.... being polarfleece it gets chucked in washing machine, dont tell my dog but there is a tennis ball in each corner for straps to hold onto.
silent to carry through scrub....I have got a 5 pocket bumbag with all my gear in it...it lives inside pikau until something is shot, then meat goes in and bumbag comes out....works fine for me.

Emergency tennis balls.... I like it!
Have just got my hands on a pikau last week.... shall see how it goes but see a similar setup with pouches on a belt inside till space is needed.

I’ve got a huntech pikau and their meat bag, pikau $60, meat bag $30.
Can’t even remember when I bought it. Still going strong!
Light weight, silent, cheap, simple.
If you want something stronger saddlery type places will sew one from ripstop/canvas type stuff but it’s noisey. There’s a pic in an nz hunter mag if you want me to find it.
