Nicely done mate. Did you dye the leather yourself or is it pre dyed?

It's a chrome tanned buffalo leather, already dyed. Not as versatile as vegetable tanned leather but it's been perfect for my purposes. Made some really nice pouches from it. Regards, Joel
A new secatuers pouch has been on the list of things to do for a while now. I wanted a slim design so it wouldn't crowd my hunting belt. Finished it this evening, turned out nice.

Do mind if I ask where you got it from and what thickness it is?. I brought some Buffalo a while back. It is great for knife sheaths but would struggle to make pouches or anything that has corners as you can't wet mold it.
Cheers

It is 3.0mm Black Alaska S/Butts from NZ Leather Suppliers. Just had a look and they have Black Alaska vege tanned in stock. Maybe I was wrong about it being a chrome tanned leather... I picked it up right before our first lock down. I haven't been interested in wet molding it, I've preferred to design my pouches so water can easily run out the bottom. I've dunked my hunting belt on more than one occasion, crossing slow waist deep rivers.
@joelhenton Thanks mate will look into it.

The latest made for a friend after he bought a new knife.
A mish-mash of designs and styles because I have had to make it out of scrap pieces and offcuts and remains from other projects.
That said he also requested it be lined with nice soft suade which also makes it exponentially trickier to make tidily when the whole design is compromised due to lack of resources.
Also likes the laced look but didn't have enough to lace whole sheath hence the mixture of lacing/stitching. I justed tried to incorporate all the things he likes in some way.
That said I think it's turned out ok, a little quirky in looks but feels great in the hand and looks better in the flesh than the pics. The band around the top is the suade the sheath is %100 internally lined with and is fixed with hidden stitching then folded back over itself then continues down into the sheath internally.
Oddball-ish , but I like it

Nicely done @Ftx325 . Definitely looks a bit fiddly, I had to look twice trying to figure out how you'd done a couple things[emoji848]

Just finished this up for a custom made knife. Owner was reluctant to post the knife so had to make it based on measurements only. Which is why I insisted it had a flap over top. Also wanted a lanyard for the handle.Waiting to hear back if it fit[emoji1696]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a5df30ea3c.jpg

First attempt at a lefty sheath, this one for a Manly Drugar (it came with a kydex sheath).
Pretty happy with the results, and learnt several good lessons along the way.
- riveted the belt loop for this one, next time I think I will sew it in
- figured out the correct sizing on the pattern for a nice tight fit (15mm seems to be the ticket)
- messing glue on leather is not a clever idea, it really shows up once you apply wax, grrrr
- with the welt, the edge is quite thick and getting stitching chisels through is "challenging", ended up using chisel on the show side and then drilling 1.5mm holes, bit skew on the back...

Looks good @ebf . The problem I find with rivets is they can mark/scratch the handle. The problem with stitching is the handle can rub through it and eventually break the thread. I guess it comes down to how nice the knife is and how hard the sheath will be used.

Just finished up this pig sticker sheath. Made with heavy Buffalo leather. Guy didn't want any buckle or snap fitting so came up with this strap setup. Can hold the sheath upside down and shake it without knife falling out. Will be interested to see how it lasts.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f9f411ef06.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7341b9b563.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...93e299f8a1.jpg

I've been mucking around with a bit of leather, trying to create a simple clean and fast to produce pattern as an option for my knives. Have settled on a simple fold style sheath. Just need to get a punch made for branding now.
Really like working with leather, it's a super satisfying material to work with. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...249c29a25f.jpg

I heat a piece of conduit pipe up and flatten it around blade then put this inside my leather sheaths so knife CANNOT cut its way out or cut my legs AGAIN... little bit fiddly to ensure blade goes down into it when putting back in sheath, but peace of mind is worth it.
Made a sheath for the old el cheapo Mora today, anything's better than the plastic one it came with. I used an old piece of leather, mainly to check that my template was right, and I made a few mistakes that can be fixed on later models but it didn't come out too bad. I finish all my leather with bees wax / paraffin oil mix.

Just had this made for a Randell model 14 I have. Ostrich leg leather front.

Could glue a thin pice of leather over the rivet to keep the handle safe? If you ramp/skive both ends the knife shouldn't catch or cause hangups
@Nick-D something like that could work. Especially if you tuck it under the welt as well.

My current work in progress...
Thought I would try something different for this knife so after picking up some more leather offcuts I decided to go 'blingy' , with a nod to the kydex style sheaths.
So pancake style rather than my usual wrap around and getting bored with brown/black colour, my hunting clothes pretty much all green so why not thinks I.....

I really like the results....
Still not finished yet , have to add belt loop which will probably also have torch holder built into it and have some different colour washers on the way, bit to much green maybe at mo, but like it enough might make matching belt pouches etc.
And as usual colour is patchy by design, almost black in places as didn't want it to bright.
Also the stone holder is it's own seperate sheath which bolts on, as will the belt loop as my usual style.
I really like that!. What a cool way to blend traditional and "tacticool" styles. The colored washers are a nice touch. Look forward to seeing finished product.

Looks good mate. What torch is that?. Looks to be a handy size

a little led lenser , forgot the model , but fed by a single aa battery . Just have it as a handy little backup/emergency light , but nice and easy to get to on sheath when can't be bothered digging around for head torch .
So been a busy couple weeks with the leather....
A Mercator pocket/belt sheath for a friend at work with titanium pocket/belt clip....

The knife I made the green sheath previous for the missus has claimed as her own but didn't like the green sheath style and wanted more like I usually made, so did a more traditional style but again used titanium belt clip so can put on belt or hang on bag.....
Attachment 234479
Attachment 234480
A pic of back with clip....
Attachment 234481
So the green sheath from earlier post is now a spare but liked the style so made a new one, the same idea as first , for my knife and being a modular design was able to replicate mounting points for stone holder and belt/torch holder and fit to new sheath instead...
Attachment 234482
I then decided to make a sheath for my Mercator which would sit sideways/horizontal on the dead space on front of knife belt but hopefully tuck in enough to not get in the way stepping uphill...and match green knife sheath...
Attachment 234483
Attachment 234484
And on the belt...
Attachment 234485
Got a multi tool which I think will get the matching sheath treatment next....
That's some nice work @Ftx325. Always good to keep the missus happy[emoji6]. Do you mind if I ask where did you get the belt clips from?. They look like a good design.

Another Ali express find , along with the washers and screws (stainless no less , just chemically blackened) etc....all made and sold for kydex sheaths. Just search for something along those lines.
Something a little different. My watch strap perished and finally broke so I decided to make my own for my old faithful Casio. Along with a simple sleeve for my new phone

Very nice

An exercise in practicing new leather techniques, lots of skiving, french stitching and a corset stitch. Enjoyable projects
A mate asked me to make a sheath for a rather stabby looking knife. The catch was he wanted to mount it to a "molle" system on his pack etc. But also be able to wear on a belt. After a bit of trial an error this is the result.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5bf6c49519.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...58925f39c3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a93ac840e4.jpg

Speaking of leather. I have a oilskin leather hat and jacket that has an issue of mould growing on them. Whats the best way to stop this?
