    PLB1 for a great price

Just bought a PLB1 from a company called Cooee Bay Trading Company who are selling brand new PLB1’s for $390 on trade me.

I bought one as I’d been looking for a PLB for a while now but didn’t feel like paying H&F prices which have them at $550

Took the plunge and bought this one & was very impressed with the service, prompt delivery & the product.

It was an easy process to register it here in NZ so I’m now all sorted.

He's a forum member, and used to sell the KTI plb's before they were discontinued.

That is a damn sharp price, I have the same PLB and think I paid about $100 more a few years ago.

Yep, still got my KTi I got from cooebay. I ordered two and he contacted me to make sure I'd be happy with him sending them over in separate parcels, to avoid going over the customs threshold. He could just have not bothered and saved himself money by sending them as one parcel.

Used to be "Skippers Mate" based in Tasmania I think. Got a PLB1 of him a few years ago. Great to deal with.

I thought I got it registered but apparently not.

These units appear to be Australian coded units so I either register it in Oz or get it recoded to a NZ code.

I have sent some e-mails to see what is required for recoding otherwise I might just send it back for a refund!

    @CooeeBay - any advice, please?

Just register it with AMSA in Australia.

Don’t bother re coding it. When I did my old work one I put all my kiwi details in a supplementary info field, but that was some time ago.

Not as seamless as a NZ coded unit as the initial ping will go to Canberra, they will then task Wellington to undertake the search.

Yep, that's how mine is set up. No stress at all...

When you push the button it sends the balloon up in Canberra and they kick it straight to RCCNZ in Wellington.

Likewise. it was the 10 year battery life that made the decision for me. Still no one else offering that length of battery life as far as I know.

Update… Cooeebay gave me a call from Oz and talked me through everything as I should have read the e-mail he sent me explaining everything so that’s on me!

Thanks to the above postings aswell as I was able to register it in Oz which was easy so I’m now definitely ready to go.

    Would I recommend it… YES 👍

I guess it's good practice to register it with a bigger company like Oz.

A smaller company like NZ might fold and then registration no good.
