Good old fair trading act. If you can hand on heart say you’ve not put in front of a fire or other deadly sins then the boots are clearly not fit for purpose

I’d talk to your retailer and speak to the manager, not staff and insist they explain what they’re going to do under the fair trading act

Take notes. Let them see you taking notes.
