    Putties

Looking at getting some putties for hunting and occasionally work.

Currently is down to either the

    Hunters Element XTR Pinnacle

    or the

Bushbuck Silent Farm, but this one is out of stock in my size at the moment.

Any other suggestions want them to be silent so have ruled out Twin Needle and don't like the look of the Swazi ones.

I have canvas long gaiters but want some short ones.

I wear the twin needle ones and have shot plenty of deer wearing them from farm to public bush.......

So I wear either....Twin Needle, or neoprene Hujters Element or lil stoney creek one's with my sneakers

Blundstone and protector safety oil skin ones wear well and $8 from memory

Go through about three pairs a year

Chainsaw puttees wear well too but can be noisy when new

The other option is to wear long fleece pants over your noisy gaiters. Good option for winter.
Edit. Sorry. Link was supposed to be for the short ones.

Sorry confusion here, Which are the short ones, Gaiters or Putties,
I have a set of the Markhor ones that come up to just under the knee.
They have that quiet soft outer layer and a heavy nylon inner. However I don't wear them very often unless its cold/wet, lots of nasty off track or small river crossings. I have found that I can keep my feet dry for much longer wearing them. Down side is that my lower leg and feet get very sweaty due to the lack of air circulation.

If you can hang on the bush buck ones when on sale for $35 are good value for the money

Have a look at mountainhighclothing.co.nz. A bit dearer, but good quality.

Putties are the short ones I have a pair of canvas Cactus ones but a bit noisy, great for tramping but not so much for hunting.

Cut the toe end off an old pair of socks, used them growing up while wishing for the real deal and they worked well

Twinneedle ones are good for on the tops hunting in tussock or valley floor flats. I have owned a pr for over 10 years now with minor stitching fix ups and velcro. Stoney Creek also seem to make good tough gaiters - more silent when brushing against bush though i don't require the strap/chain under the boot to hold on - the gaiters seem to remain in place tight against the boot. For summer i use the Huntech short gaiter as the long ones i mentioned can be a bit hot over this period. Also i don't wear shorts anymore - either Stoney Creek hunt fast or Huntech summer trousers. I don't feel the cold too bad so don't want to overheat. Just want to keep the forest floor and creek crossings out of my boots. And are past my legs getting harassed by branches!
