For camping, We have a Domex Bushmate for our7 yr old, standard 210cm long bag, 0 deg comfort, -5 limit. Picked it up using our flybuys points. Sells for around $130. Standard bulky bag but not an issue if taking the car camping.
Figured he'd grow into it in a few years and it is a decent rated bag. Most kids bags we looked at were in the 5-10 deg range.
The zipper played up after around 10 months, We contacted flybuys and the vendor (Tightlines) sent out a postage bag for it, a week later a brand new bag arrived, no questions asked.

For tramping trips I came across a second hand bag at Cash and trade, a Eurohike two seasons bag. 5 deg rating, Used with a liner and PJs I have had my boy in huts over winter(snow included) and he has been very toasty
