    Replacement PLB battery????

Greetings folks. I own a Kti PLB (model SA2G) to which the battery needs replacement (officially expires next year, but it’s failing test)

It uses a “LiFeS2” type battery

Kti have since ceased to operate, and I bought this one as part of a bulk deal, I don’t have a NZ retailer to contact, either.

I’m figuring there must be a few hunters here who have the same unit.

Has anyone located a supplier for a suitable replacement battery? Potentially there’ll be 30 of us in Southland alone.

I’ve made contact with NZ Lithium, really nice people, but not something they do

    Any suggestions/advice sincerely appreciated
    Simon

@gonetropo Are they easy to replace or do I take the whole unit into Batterymasta and let them do it?

tim, usually pretty easy but be careful with the seals. tell search people you are doing it in case of accidental transmission

    Thanks for your input;
Ben at BatteryMasta in ChCh has been very helpful, and he’s optimistic they can sort my unit. Mines on its way to him for confirmation etc.
I confess I’ll feel a tad naked whilst it’s being serviced - the peace of mind is immeasurable when I’m wearing it.

If it's no longer supported and out of date, I would be doing the maths on what it costs to change out the battery vs the price of a replacement unit that's still supported.

One reason for this is that if there is a fault in the units that crops up like the type that was withdrawn a few years ago for continued unintended activations, the only way you would find out is if you get a notification from RCCNZ or it happens to you...

I'm sitting on an old ACR plb that's expired and needs a change of battery, service through the local agent is 2/3rd the cost of a new replacement which is smaller, lighter and comes with a nifty pouch. No argument with the service costs, it costs what it costs and an hour of charge out time to change a battery needs to support a fair amount of hands in the chain... I can't get one of the correct generic brand battery types in NZ and they won't ship it internationally (or at least I can't find a way for them to do it). I'm not needing the thing at the moment - when I was working it lived in the ute's glovebox so once I'm back on the workforce I'll replace it.

I'll be up for something next year as my KTI runs out October next year, it is still passing the test as I checked it last week. I'll probably just get a new one then.

Absolutely agree. The $ have to balance a unit that is old(er) technology and out of warranty/unsupported
Frankly the argument that for roughly $55/year, over ten years, you’ll get a new supported unit, is a persuasive one. Waiting for the price on battery refit before I decide.

tell search people you are doing it in case of accidental transmission
Probably better to just check your registered contact details are correct prior to tinkering with it.
If it goes off inadvertently RCC will still be calling regardless to confirm an emergency or false activation. Saves humbugging them over the phone unnecessarily when they’re time is better used on other tasks.

RCC have a glitch on their website my PLB shows up with its hex number but when you click more details it goes to a blank page. I have been in contact with them and they can't figure it out why.
