Replacing radio batteries - uniden BP506

Just scored some old radios, no longer used. Have had minimal use. I suspect that they have been sitting for some time not charged.

Anyone know the best place in NZ to get replacements?

    This outfit any good?

dont waste your time with knock off batteries of dubious sources, i see them all the time. some are ok, some are rubbish and some are just damn dangerous

These units take AAA batteries also. So could I buy 6 rechargeable AAAs and still use the cradle charger? Or do I have to remove the batteries to charge them?

Remove and charge. The cradle IIRC has the connection point to link onto those contact discs on the front of the battery pack.

Have a look at the battery pack and see if it has two round discs on it for the charger contacts.

Right so these wont even transmit using new triple A’s. Anyone know of a service agent for radios who could take a look? Or anyone got similar units they could try their batteries in?

Many Rechargeables are shyt, their voltage curves are out of whack with what is expected, could be causing the syptoms. You'll want decent NiMH.
LiPo would be an interesting thing but wouldn't work with factory charger.
Hose out the compartment and contacts with CRC66.
    Try with brand alkalines.
