    Rifle mounted torch.

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a torch to mount to my .22 for shooting bunnies and possums. I've spent some time reading reviews and searching the web but I thought it was best to ask the people out there using torches in NZ.

Just wanting to hear peoples ideas on good choices? What would you recommend?

    Cheers.

I don't know much about lights, I'm sure there's better out there but I like the led lenser P7 in the holder that goes on top of the scope.

I use a Led Lenser P7 on my rifles and love it. Good light, plenty powerful enough for anything I want to do. Adjustable focus and mounts are pretty easy to find.

i had a p7 mounted on the 308 with the lenser mount, was great till you pulled the trigger and it fell on the ground with the recoil.
think they have or you can get better mounts more like scope rings now.

    Thanks for the feedback guys,
I had been looking at the p14, which appears to be the next model up from the p7. Just wondering if its worth the jump up.

wait till gadget turns up, lights half the price shit all over lenser now if you know what to get.

I use a humble little torch mounted on my scope (sometimes two) and they allow me to shoot comfortably out to 200m or more. The Led Lenser are very old technology and way over priced. The warranty on them is good, but you will likely spend more than the cost of a new light of better quality in retuning the Led Lenser for replacement.

I use one of these Buy UltraFire WF-501B Cree R2-WC 250-Lumen LED Flashlight Black (1*18650/2*CR123A)

With this lens added Buy UltraFire WF-501B Cree R2-WC 250-Lumen LED Flashlight Black (1*18650/2*CR123A)

Powered with these Batteries TrustFire Protected 18650 3.7V Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries (Pair) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

That are charged with this Cheap TrustFire TR-001 Multi-Purpose Lithium Battery Charger

For mounting I put the torch in a 1" scope ring Aluminum Alloy Bracket Mounts with Hex Wrench - Pair (25MM-Caliber) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme or something similar.

To mount it I take a hacksaw to one of these and cut off the plain end leaving the bit with two weaver mounts (with two pairs of screws) and put it on my scope Cheap Universal Gun Mount with Hex Wrench or Gun Mount Holder Clip Clamp for Flashlight / Bicycle Light Lamp (25 x 30mm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

These tend to run for about 4 hours on a battery. There are probably brighter torches out there but this does the job very well for me. Cheap, effective, reliable and quick to mount. I use them on both rimfire and centrefire.

Try this one Glass Optics for Flashlights (28mm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Needs a little sanding down of the edges to fit.

Some of the guys I rabbit shoot with have a couple of Maxtochs on their scopes. I prefer the smaller torches with a longer runtime.

I thought a man of your calibre would use a canned 223 for poaching, less recoil, torch stays on and the one beside it is down too.

    New P7 works very well.

I have a single battery maxtoch on the 22. It's got long enough reach for a 22. I use the double battery as a search and destroy field scanner. Also use a WF-501B red LED under the barrel for skittish close up bunnies.
