I dont use a rino myself, but a couple of mates have them. They have yet to need the back up battery pack as they are getting great useage from the lithium rechargeable.
One point to note is that the radio will chew through AA alkalines very quickly and you are unlikely to be able to use the high power 5 watt mode either

    I've never used mine either.

I have taken a small 12v battery and the car charger on fly in/ drive in multi day trips.

We have charged numerous Rino's from the one battery like this and never needed to use the battery pack yet.

    Cheers

No Gibo. It is a separate AA battery pack that replaces/backs up the lithiums should you need it.
For instance, if you were on an extended trip and could not recharge the lithiums then you switch over to the AA pack.

Because they are a bit like some of the dedicated Lithium batteries that come with power tools. I would guess they are pretty expensive

Thought as much. Spare Lithium is aprox $60 us$ I believe

    Munsey

Look on eBay there's plenty on there for around $75nz or less with free shipping.

Also search Google you might get a cheap Chinese one.

I recently got a battery for my Garmin Zumo ($138nz Local) for $16nz shipped.
Was Identical to the original Garmin battery except the word Garmin was missing from the Sticker.

    Cheers
