Just moved to a new rural address and wanting to put a basic camera up to record comings and goings, also wanting to put up a drive way alarm.Also any recommend a solar powered security light
First a camera to on its run own battery power, simple to use, water proof, run through wifi but am not all ways in cell signal so while a alert would be handy, maybe email? don't want one that talks to you with warning etc etc
And drive way alert like a door bell inside house with a 300m range to sensor.
Lot of shit out there just thought someone on here might have already done the trial and era
And money is limited got hunting shit to buy

I’ve got multiple people I know using the arlo 4g cameras. They’re bloody good.

You would have to wonder about having a live feed to your phone now. If you actually have people on your place stealing your stuff its unlikely that the Police will respond.

Something that records and is a stand alone system with either its own power source, or a stand by power system for when the mains go down ( ie when burglars cut the power)

There's lots of system out there. Just depends really on how much you want to spend. The driveway monitoring system is a good idea.

@gonetropo might be worth talking to....Pretty sure he knows a thing or two about this stuff...

The Arlo cameras are great but take some setting up for remote cameras any distance from the hub because of effective wifi range.

The camera will only be 40m max away from wifi source I only need one camera maybe. Am not worried about power getting cut if its that bad i have insurance. but yes a something that records would be handy. Most days i get no coverage then get home and only have wifi calling so a alert to my phone would be no point.
So yeah just a basic set up.
A mates mate got a setup from noel leemings or the likes and they pay a monthly fee maybe to store recordings?? i know its not monitored.

I use a reolink argus 2 camera with one of their solar panels to keep the battery topped up. Similar situation - rural property, connecting across Wifi. Has a SD card to back up recordings, and free cloud storage for 1 camera, so the chances of losing a recording is low. Configured to send email and app alerts.
Pretty sure there is a newer model, which I may look at.

I too am interested in a driveway alarm to the house. Our existing one ( distributor in Nelson) was originally ok but has gone haywire- the solar panels which charge the battery in each unit don't seem to be working. Despite fitting new cells, the lo-bat warning appears each day as the sun disappears.

Anyway, we need a driveway system capable of sending a signal a max 100m. Any advice appreciated.

These ones aren’t wifi, they’re running their own sim?

I use 4G Reolink and some wifi cameras that run with XMEye apps

it's pretty noisy thou and it picked up any movement.

Have used Arlo at a worksite

-Don't point the camera at a road cos it will record every vehicle going by. Just the driveway is best. Lots of trigger events equals short battery life
-With the ones we had, you didn't have to put the pics up in the cloud, I bought a 128Gig USB stick and plugged it into the modem inside and it sent pics to that instead. Unplug USB, plug into laptop and download pics

also with the Arlo system you could block out times for it not to record (when we were working) so as not to over-trigger it

Our security installer swore by Ubiquiti for a brand as it was really customisable according to him but I haven't used it, looks pretty expensive

we bought 3 cheap bunning solar security lights..they flick on when something goes past..3 years later the ystill work great,forsure they only stay on for 20-30 seconds..but its enough to get out of car and sort your keys out..or let us know someone is at yard gate....
trailcamera in driveway would record comings n goings..... end of day you only really going to capture vechille and maybe faces to hand to police in best case senario..... and MAYBE deter someone from coming onto property if they see cameras and lights.....

I've got a trail camera up on a light pole in the driveway. There are no batteries in it but anyone looking from the front gate can see it sitting there so I have it as deterrent. Pays to have 1 visible and a couple hidden. Better to have them move onto the neighbours instead of targeting your place.

Have used parabeam for driveway alarm for years. Basically works like a shop door alarm like you say. We had 2 on separate driveways. Worked a treat. Good range. Good beeper in house to wake you up at 2 in morning
