    Which Safe to go for?

So i'm going to upgrade my security, buying a safe in the next week or so.
Been looking at what is available at my local stores and from what i've seen i like the Edge Security the best i think which i looked at in Stirling Sports but also in the mix is a Hy Skor item.

I want to store 5 guns so the smallest safes available won't do. I am keen to get the edge security one at the moment, has 5 large pins to lock the door and seems to be a good size.

Anyone had any good or bad experience with these? Any others you would recommend for what i'm looking for? They were both around the $450 mark.
If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.

Do you think you will ever want E or B? Future proofing might be a thought too

good thought but nah. i enjoy smashing pests and shooting targets which is really all i intend to do. Not even interested in deer stalking etc (which i know i don't need an E cat for), i have too many other expensive hobbies and a large, young family so time is limited as it is.
My main reason for upgrading is to have them more secure from the kids than a cable in the wardrobe.

I want to store two .22s, a 17hmr & a 223. Maybe a pump gun but i don't currently own one as I lost interest in duck shooting last year and sold it. I maybe only get them out once or twice a month realistically.

Basically all the safes are very under size rated. If they state 5 gun - it's more like 3 at a squeeze.

I have a 9 gun safe and it only holds 5 comfortably. Maxed it out with 7. Dunno how I could ever get 9 in it.

The cheaper option would be gun racks.

Thinking about that, if it were ever attempted to be forced open the lugs around the edge of the frame are the important bit aren't they rather than what pushes them out? It will be much better than those gun city ones I've seen that are glorified office cabinets.

Agree but the one I looked at yesterday looked like it would be sweet. There were smaller models there

I don't really have anywhere I want to do that. I can still use the wardrobe lock if need be, just want the majority our all in a cabinet, particularly the ammo and bolts

There is no safe that will keep out a Dewalt doc cutter, here in the UK we have various gun safes, the law says they must be able to last at least 15mins of attempted break in, no external hinges, I am bringing my bratton safe with me, would it cover your laws ?

Taff there's no time restriction here in NZ, the 2 ratings simply deal with a minimum metal thickness for a safe. A strong room is also acceptable though.

Smidey, go for a 7 minimum I reckon, it'll hold 5 scoped rifles comfortably. However. If you have the budget, spend the most you can afford, and then a bit more. Think of the value of your gear, and how much it would cost to replace.

To me it's odd folks are happy to drop a couple of grand in just one rifle and scope and ammunition and clothing and gear and everything that goes with shooting, but then try to save a couple of bucks and get the cheapest safe on TM.

Personally I'd go for E cat safe even if you're not thinking about getting your B or E later in life. It's a small cost in the grand scheme of things in the years to come.
