Sharpening. Simple Green

A while back Micky Duck mentioned his mate used Simple Green as a medium on the sharpening stone. I had to dress out a nice boar. Whipped out the stone and remembered that advice. Poured some on and went to work on a Victory knife I had. It keeps the stone very clean and it got that knife to a lovely edge. A word of caution... like reloading dont get distracted. My dogs bowled into the garage , I turned to chastise them and luckily I whipped away my fingers as the knife carried on its way on the stone. It was very sharp.I also gave an Opinel I keep now for trout fishing. It polished it up very well.

As an ex butcher.... Any of the spray on window/multi purpose cleaners work well too. Well I won't say "any" because I haven't tried them all! But just use what I have to hand and never had any worries :)

I just use the dish detergent from under sink......LOL
of oil from can if out in garage...but the dish detergent and a little water definately works well.....distraction while stoning cost me 6 weeks off work,took tiny triagle off end of saturday night finger..maybe 7mm on every edge....4 weeks in bandage,took it off and blood pissed out again,bandaged for further 2 weeks.

I store my water stones in a plastic container filled with water and simple green. I use the same water for lubing the stone. Gone away from oil stones.

Yeah whetstones are a lot less messy, although a lot of stones especially the cheaper chinese ones don't last long on water instead of oil.

I've got a spyderco sharpener with stones. I clean them with Jif to get them back to new...always dry use though.

I use a 50:50 blend of 3 in 1 oil and kerosene. If anything it's a bit thin but doesn't gunk up the stone

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

my piece of rangitata river rock split by a heavy roller doesnt care what gets used for lube LMFAO.....

CRC here, works OK but smelly.
