    Shooting Sticks

Shooting Sticks...... Who uses them and what?

Bipods ok for prone and when got lots of time to set up, but for standing shots shooting over brush/scrub or even when shooting downhill, a stick could be beneficial.
Seen a couple that I thought would be ideal.
Vanguard Scout M62 monopod and a Primos Trigger Stick.
The Scout is a fully manual operation whereas the Primos has a trigger release system. Only drawback with the Primos is it doesn't close up very much.
Seen some use a collapsible stick as a standing rest by putting the stick into your hip for offhand support. Need to get the length just right though.

I have tried those tent pole bungy things and they just don't work.

Something sturdy enough to be used as a walking/hill stick as well as rifle support.

    Any thoughts fellas?

Manuka walking stick, then just rest the rifle on your hand at whatever height you need a rest, I have one of those trigger release monopods and to be honest they are crap.
They don't collapse small enought to make them convenient to carry and they are nowhere near sturdy enough to use as a walking stick.
My kids use it for standing shots with the 22 in the paddock that's sbout all its good for.

Love shooting sticks. Works great for me. I use two differend lengths - long; in area's where I'd have to shoot standing or kneeling due to the vegitation or short; in areas where I'd be able to sit or kneel.

Their constructed using four lengthes of half inch copper pipe, light and very sturdy. I'll see if I can upload a photo.

    How do one upload photos???

I use DIY bipod or quad sticks almost every time for rabbit shooting. Full length, i.e. use when standing. Wouldn't be without them!

Only converted to them recently. Thought they would be a pain in the ass till I shot a few deer in long grass and scrub from different positions.
I have them extended and use as a walking stick or on the side of my daybag.
Wouldn't go anywhere hunting without them now.

I use trekking pole with modified end piece which is removable- Ali or cf they are super light, fully adjustable. Bloody good on the hill and handy for shots in scrub or tussock when a bipod or pack is just not going to cut it

What about a Makila? Then you can fend off the wolves as well!

They just take a while to learn the techniques to use them.. rock solid and very versatile after that.

Wouldn't be without them in any steep/rough/tussock country.

I’ve got two different types if you want to try some. One is a Bogpod RLD2, and the other set are Viperflex Journey. I’m near Christchurch, just pm me if you want to try them to see if they are what you are looking for.
