I am lead to believe that putting it in a vacuum packer and vacuum packing it after wetting the leather works quite well. Leave it for a couple of hours then open the vacuum bag and let it dry.

System I have being shown is different and involves very hot wax...... sets like rock and waterproof pretty much, works very well.

Bark River Gunny hunter LT in Elmax. Its very svelte, I really like it. Natural canvas micarta handle which is nothing like the photo on DLT for colour but its nice. A question - is there some way of wet forming the sheath to the knife? Do you soak the sheath with the knife in it or soak it and then put the knife in it or is it not a thing at all? The sheath is ok but not a great design.

I also wanted a different sheath for my gunny hunter, so got this one done

Nice. I wish Hamish still made sheaths. @viper that wax method sounds pretty interesting. Is it like the proofing offered by knivesshipfree et al?

Nah. That proofing that they offer actually makes the leather softer.

Does anyone on here own examples of both the standard (0.156") and LT (0.122") Gunny Hunter and would be prepared to offer their thoughts on the choice of blade thickness please? Has the handle material thickness been increased on the LT to maintain the same widths as on the original, absence of jimping on the LT, etc ? How far up the blades do the grinds go, and therefore giving differing primary grind angles?

Same handle so slightly thinner unless you order liners. You lose nothing with the thinner blade and gain some slice-ability. Ive had both.

Better still is the Fox River Ext in cru-wear. Its the Fox River blade with a Gunny handle.

@Puffin @Jit has gunny hunter and I have the GH LT as above. We had a show me yours I show you mine session today. As @Tahr says the handle without liners is a little thinner on the LT and the blade is a few mm shorter - maybe because same angle of grind with thinner stock will obviously reach an apex a little sooner. And yes the LT is a nicer slicer. But the GH is a stronger pronger. 😀 The LT is really quite small in the hand. I do have reasonably big hands though to be fair.

@WillB and @Puffin Im in Wellington central and have about 30 BR knives if you ever want to have a look at various models. No Gunnies though. Sold my last one to @Jit

On some runs they will do some full hight grinds as an option. Ive got a Bravo1 Lt Cru wear with a FH grind and drop point. Its very good.
