Up coming knives in progress, Kitchen already gone but some hunters maybe available, PM if interested.
I now have started an Instagram / Facebook account under Medusa Knives.............need all the friends and followers I can ( no mates) :D ,shameless plug I know but just starting out and trying to get up and running.
Sorry if this steps over a boundary by self promoting, not trying or wanting to step on any Attachment 124384ones toes.
There is a moratorium on buying rifles at my place at the moment. Knives were not mentioned so I made the only choice I could:PAttachment 124625

Just finished, spalted French Box wood handle, full tang and full grind in 14c28n.
Decided after calling myself Medusa Knives that the different knives I make will be named after the snakes in her hair so this model is the TAIPAN.
More to come, I think this one maybe sold but not certain. PM me if interested and I will confirm.
@viper i have some nice south american hardwood that would make good handles

Bark River Gunny hunter LT in Elmax. Its very svelte, I really like it. Natural canvas micarta handle which is nothing like the photo on DLT for colour but its nice. A question - is there some way of wet forming the sheath to the knife? Do you soak the sheath with the knife in it or soak it and then put the knife in it or is it not a thing at all? The sheath is ok but not a great design.
@gonetropo any of that wood left?
only need enough for a couple of knife scales
Wet the sheath with the knife in it. I wipe the sheath with a wet rag until its soft. Then form the leather around the handle using your fingers and finger nails. Then let it dry with the knife in it. Elmax shouldn't rust but if you are worried about that put a bit of glad wrap around the blade before you do it. If it is still loose stick a corn pad dressing on the inside back of the sheath.
sweet.
wont be able to come and get it till after the 14th.
if that's ok?
Awesome thanks mate. It isnt loose but it doesnt have a positive “stop” or “click” as the handle locks into place. It just sort of comes to a friction stop. The Phoenix you sold me ( i think it was you?) has a wet formed sheath and you can feel the handle lock into place which is satisfying and reassuring.
System I have being shown is different and involves very hot wax...... sets like rock and waterproof pretty much, works very well.
I also wanted a different sheath for my gunny hunter, so got this one donehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...aef82ad30c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...86de01ea27.jpg

Nice. I wish Hamish still made sheaths. @viper that wax method sounds pretty interesting. Is it like the proofing offered by knivesshipfree et al?
Does anyone on here own examples of both the standard (0.156") and LT (0.122") Gunny Hunter and would be prepared to offer their thoughts on the choice of blade thickness please? Has the handle material thickness been increased on the LT to maintain the same widths as on the original, absence of jimping on the LT, etc ? How far up the blades do the grinds go, and therefore giving differing primary grind angles?
Same handle so slightly thinner unless you order liners. You lose nothing with the thinner blade and gain some slice-ability. Ive had both.
Better still is the Fox River Ext in cru-wear. Its the Fox River blade with a Gunny handle.
Here's mine:

@Puffin @Jit has gunny hunter and I have the GH LT as above. We had a show me yours I show you mine session today. As @Tahr says the handle without liners is a little thinner on the LT and the blade is a few mm shorter - maybe because same angle of grind with thinner stock will obviously reach an apex a little sooner. And yes the LT is a nicer slicer. But the GH is a stronger pronger. 😀 The LT is really quite small in the hand. I do have reasonably big hands though to be fair.
Cheers mate that would be awesome!
Thanks both - for the additional photos, and the offer to look over some of the BRK models. I'll PM.
PM me if you are going and ill try to join. Oh and re the grind height that doesn't change substantially. You can see where the grind begins in those photos. Unground portion just below the spine extends about two thirds of blade length then tapers out.

What a collection. Bravo! You and Wako are probably keeping BR solvent between the two of you!
Geez @Tahr that's an expensive addiction ( cool one though ) you know you can get professional help for that.:)
