Second knife I made, age 17, 1980 (made my first one when I was 15, but that one is lost). Made entirely with hand tools.
Scrounged a car leaf spring from the local tip, cut/broke it in half, heated one half of the spring red hot in the kitchen fire, and hammered it flat on the concrete back porch with dad's Estwing. Cut / shaped the annealed steel with files and hacksaw. Blade bevels were draw filed flat, then sanded. Heat treated at the local foundry for $5.
Hidden tang, epoxied in place, brass guard, handle is apricot from up the Waitotara valley. Overall length 249 mm, blade length 126 mm, blade thickness at spine 5.4 mm. HRC 48.
Got all rusty and pitted because my brother used it as a saltwater fishing knife - if he hadn't stashed it in his fishing box it most likely would have been thrown out while I was at uni. I reclaimed it from him in 1986.
Got this fella away over the weekend. Full tang drop point. Rwl 34, with tassie blackwood and g10 bolsters. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ca6b82d53f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...153a8f55bb.jpg

Something out of the scraps and stuff ups pile. Smashed this together Inbetween orders. Original Knife was a nitro v lightweight edc tester I wasn't 100% happy with and the scales had a massive inclusion making to short for a normal knife handle.
Bit of a regrind and viola a new little b&t/small game hunter for myself. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...294c871ee8.jpg

Sitting at home with Covid, day 5... she's a bit boring.
Lost count of the amount of hunting videos I have watched on YouTube.
Out of boredom here's a knife I made a couple of weeks back for a local Central Otago hunter.
Mamba model in 1084.
New Juma blue swirl handle material combined with Navy and white acrylic handle material. Attachment 223913
Those mambas are a good shape!
It is “Voilà “,
viola means “he rapped” in French.
Thanks @Joe_90 , you have done a fair share of animals with one , cheers for the feedback.

A stainless Damascus Nakiri made for my wife's birthday, needless to say my brownie points are on max .
Hi all,
I recently found this kukri when going through my grandfather's stuff. I don't know anything about it; looks a bit "touristy" but it must be quite old (as he died before I was born).
No stamps or marks, but it's decently made and has a good edge. Seems forged and good steel.
Anyone seen or know anything about this sort of knife?

Any marking on the other side?

Nope, no markings anywhere. From some research it seems it is an old Indian Kukri, rather than a Nepalese one. The small versions are to be used as a pen knife ‘sort of’ (the sharp one) and the blunt one was for church. A warrior couldn’t be without his kukri but no weapons allowed in church, hence he would leave the two sharp ones outside and just cart the blunt one in. Honour satisfied… I think it's quite old.
no the two small ones are one -a pen knife and two two a primitive steel for reraisng the edge.I have two of the small ones -one ive mounted is complete the other a rough one Ive done repairs on the handle and scabbard and use it as a bush knife in tandem with my late model british "golok" machete.any old soldiers out there willknow what Im talking about.
weilded right that wee kukri can punch well beyond its weight.
That's quite an imaginary description of small knives. it's nothing like that. :D
Small knives are called karad (The Sharp one) and Chamak or Chakmak (Blunt one). Karad is for cleaning game, cutting fruits, general purpose small knife whereas Chakmak is to sharpen the main khukri or small knife.
Thanks very much for the info on this kukri! :) I think I'll print out the names/descriptions you've given me and hang the knife on the garage wall.
Happy to share my XM18

Made by a friend who surprised me with at the beginning of a hunting trip. He also did the leatherwork. He's one of those clever bastards🙂
Got to use it same day. Feek it's sharp and holds it's edge.

A recently finished Mamba , 1084 steel. G10 bright Orange handles combined with black and blue swirl front section.
The instructions were pretty clear as they had lost two other knives by putting them down and forgot to pick them up.... it had to be bright and easy to locate.
This ones heading to the deep south, Burt Munro country.

Made by John Isabeth @ Cullers Knives
John makes some seriously good knives here in NZ from pretty cool materials like old saw blades from timber mills.

A little Bill Nikl number custom made to a Possum Trappers own spec's, who never came back to pay for it.
So I bought it cheap. A sweet little knife with 3&1/4" blade.
The back of the sheath got gnawed on in a rat infested Urewera hut one night ...... gives it a bit of character
Seriously nice!
This I want. @Marty Henry how can I get one like this?
A nice useful little number from Svord. "The Amerikiwi"
I made 2 sheaths for this knife with its 3&1/2" blade. Which sheath I use depends on the length of the Hikoi.

Finished this little carbon and stainless San mai kitchen knife for my brother as a gift. Turned out pointy. Nice bit of died burl for the handle. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e0725b522f.jpg

Got this as a gift today. Svord. It was the only choice, as the guy who got it for me and myself both used to live just down the road from Bryan Baker.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...64dc7d7f39.jpg
Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.
I reckon it will do for my lifetime. It's got a 5 3/4" blade. I skinned my first goat with a similar length skinning knife (from my father in law's meatworks days) and it was a great length. Such a good shape too - the point never catches.

Used to make a few knives, not had the spare time as of late unfortunately but thought you lot might appreciate some pics.

I am looking for a Leatherman 'Supertool' or something similar for my son.
He likes mine and i reckon it would be a sweet xmas pressy for him.
Just checking if any of you lot have one sitting around that you might part with?
Cheers, 40mm
Could swap primers etc if that helps.
Picked this up today, nothing flash but should do the job. Sheath's a bit cheap, has a pocket for a steel but Svord say not to use steels on their knives. And it has a convex grind which I've never before tried to sharpen. only ever flat and bevel grinds :wtfsmilie:

thats relative...... dont over steel it.... just enough to restraighten edge...and when getting..not when it IS blunt...get it onto the stone and put that fine feather edge back on.
This blade has a bit of family history, my Grandma picked it up in Finland, years later she gifted it to my father, it sat in a draw for decades until he gifted it to me on a rare visit back to the UK.
It's always on my belt when I step out with a rifle on my shoulder
