Love this thread. Saved up and bought an Argali tent a year or so ago, and a Serac knife snuck in on the order. Couldn't afford it now, pricing has gone through the roof (think the States has a little inflation problem too). Wanted a knife with quality steel that would not require resharpening in the field. This has SV35N and have been able to process and bone out two reds in field comfortably. Use a Worksharp guided field sharpener, the shiz.

My usual cooking knife, made from rail track, forged with some other materials unknown from a workshop. Listen to the sound of it, if I could had a same one in NZ, then I can cook those big paua more delicious.

Picked up a few knives in a recent trip to Japan. Pretty cool be able to find ashi hamono off the shelf as they are basically impossible to find these days. Also hard not to pick up a higonokami when they are ony 20 buckshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7f0d548a94.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...978f36d8fb.jpg

Awesome blade! How many layers do you think this dagger has?
I made the Damascus bullet first which has around 100 layers in it then I made this billet which is 5 so Damascus/copper/01/copper/ Damascus.
Picked up this Loveless recently 😊
I picked up these yesterday and saw one of the most amazing pukko knives collection as well.

Sorry to hijack the thread , but what is a decent but cheapish knife for cutting up a deer and medium sized to keep in a bum bag or the pack ?
Thanks
This thread was good

Ooo that is well priced! I need to change up what I have I think. I bought a small 135mm petty but the heel of the blade is too thick. It feels too cumbersome as a result. Compare the photo the left is my Guyto that is just cuts beautifully. The right is the 135 petty. Attachment 251396
It’s from here. It’s the Dentogi Ami petty, out of stock now. Think the original maker is Tadafusa

The one on the right :)

Knives of Alaska muskrat, picked it up after caping out (and poking a couple holes in) a mountain goat. Haven't gotten to try it out yet, but it seems promising

Have you ever had that "sinking feeling" at the end of a big walk in that you might have "forgotten something"? Had that on my roar trip. After setting up the tipi, realised I'd left my Kill Bag behind, the contents of which included cord, meat bag, rubbish bag, and critically my sole knife. The thinking behind having a quality knife doesn't help when you leave it behind. Hence, my new rule. Always carry two knives. My back up just arrived, a Honey Badger Flipper - the one in orange (I blame @ryansonghurst) in medium, clip off weighs 81grams. Nice knife. Really good quality for the price $89 at Blademaster. Stored separate in the utility bag. The Nitze 4cm knife had been calling to me each time I went to Mitre 10. This sits in the tea/coffee/food bag for opening home made vacuum sealed meals and camp stuff. And because it "called to me"....

Made this out of O1 hardened to Rc59 to test the shape - if it's good I'll make a better version out of 14C28. If not, I'll keep regrinding away at it till I'm happy.
The only way I could leave a knife behind! Would be is to leave my pants and I think I may notice that after walking a little bit further from the Hennessy.
But saying that I was gutting rabbits and stuck it in the ground beside me and walked away.
Never to be seen again. Now in the sheath every time. That new one hardly leaves my side, it's NOT A can I use your knife.

Not exactly a knife but new to my collection. Not sure year of manufacture but early though, with stag antler handle. Had my eye out for one of these for years.

Beautiful!!
Spring isn't far away bud,it will get warmer.
Scored this on a turners auction after losing 2 times last week (hats off to the gent who spent a fortune outbidding me twice). BUT an S1pro came up so all's good. The LamCos steel seems to be a fav with the youtube knife nerds.
You can get cheap upgraded sheaths online too if you catch a one with the old style and want to get the cam locked one. That was about $40 landed. Knife was $395 so I was pretty happy

Very nice. I've never found a reason to complain about the 'old' laminated VG10 on my F1 and the Lam Cos is supposed to be even better.
I always think of these when someone makes blanket statements about stainless knives being rubbish and basic alloys of carbon steel being vastly superior. If only they knew... :)
Yep bad technique will blunt the best of knives. Or using one as an axe when you could have just brought a hatchet. I bought a 450gram one from bunnings for 9 freakin dollars. Beats ruining any knife imo
My first attempt at making a knife. Made this at a class last year that my wife booked me in for a birthday present. Overall very happy with it, but I didn’t manage to get it nearly as sharp as I’d have liked so it hasn’t seen much use yet. So a couple weeks ago I sent it up to @Shelley who confirmed my suspicions that the bevel wasn’t acute enough for the blade thickness. He re-beveled and polished up the edge for me and it’s now got a very nice edge on it. Shoutout to Shelley, and highly recommend his sharpening services.
