Thumbs up for the Macpac Duolight 2P - very impressed with the room, great waterproof floor that doesn’t require extra groundsheet, ease to put up and much, much better ventilation and no condensation issues so far.
Yes I tried lighter tents but decided a bit more weight for a better tent was ok for me

Is it possible to pitch this fly only and without poles? Like string it up to trees using the extra tie outs?

@BratNZ haven’t had to turn down any campsites yet but it will probably be an issue at some point.

There should be lots of gear to view next weekend in ChCh with the outdoor expo being held then.

    The Outdoor Expo 8:30am - 5pm, 14th & 15th September, Canterbury Agricultural Park

@SPEARONZ I haven’t tried, or thought about, not using the poles. I can’t remember if the tie out ropes come off the top of the tent or off the bottom of the “vent flap”.

I would say no you really need the poles or trekking poles and the 4 corners pegged out.
You can pitch the fly only they are super light and a great tent I used mine on the tahr ballot and was impressed.
I brought the poles rather than use trekking poles I put it up on our lawn in a bloody strong wind and was easy to erect in the wind and handled it with ease.

Yea nice it’s in the wish list. Fly only for summer and inner for Tahr trips makes it pretty versatile.

Great tents, only issue is the inner tends to sag a bit.....Mine has saved my butt a few times now & has held up to some atrocious wind, rain & and heavy snow.
You can fit 2 people in it if you ditch the inner, but its a bit cosy.
