    Sleeping Bags

Hey all, looking for a sleeping bag that doesn't cost a mortgage to buy and will keep me a little toasty!
Had a look around the likely suspects in NZ but asking about $600+ for a -20. Surely there is something out there that doesn't cost the earth- i found one at 1k WTF i would want her to carry it for me and keep me warm for that price.

Ideally looking for one that comfort range is about the -10 mark or it will end up being two bags in one
    Cheers

I see you are looking for a bag that has a comfort rating of -10, what sort of volume are you expecting it to be able to packed down to in your pack? That will help in trying to narrow down you search for a mid priced 4 season bag...

Cheers Brads, looking at Amazon just now as they appear to have a better price bracket i.e. under $200 just finding one that caters for shipping.
Just wondering if anyone else has picked up some bargains in NZ, thanks.

Not fussed about that Shooter as it will be in a vehicle rather than walking in with it. Drive to site, camp then walk in for day hunts, thanks

Remember that NZ Post offer that shipping service from the states if the seller does not ship to NZ, you have to pay for it but can work out pretty good if you item is shipped for free within the states.

latest hunting and fishing mag had domex bags and rab bags that might suit your needs, synthetic and not bad prices. I have no experience with them or the build quality etc etc.

synthetic bags are getting lighter and prob a cheaper option over down, and they are warm when wet. if your not bothered about weight/ bulk then go synthetic

set up a youshop account and you can ship it here if you go with buying overseas.

if I had enough cash spare I would get a sea to summit traverse XT,
Went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.

There's a U.S. Army sleeping system you can get on eBay fairly cheaply sometimes, it's supposed to be pretty good and tough to boot...

I added a cocoon inner to my bag and it's well worth the $85 or whatever. I was up at 750m over the weekend and warm as toast

These get good reviews and pack down smallish if you do decide to head bush. Be about 200 landed.

Be wary of you shopping somthing that is reasonably high volune like a sleeping bag, I got one and it ended up costing me $90 shipping and negated any savings I would have had.

I went with an Exped Comfort 600 from Bivouac. -6 rating and full sized comfort while still packing down nice and small. Good bags are really expensive but I think I paid somewhere between 300-400 for it on sale.

My advice is to wait for a sale in NZ and buy local. Otherwise you will probably get hammered on duty and taxes if you buy a good one from overseas. Plus you can't hop in them and try them. Even after trying one I walked out with it (Exped Ultralite) - but I went back the next day and changed it for the Comfort after having another couple of goes in it at home. Was just too small for me to be comfortable.
