    I think at a pinch you can save some google earth imagery to your smartphone.

    There's some stuff out there on how to. I might have tried playing with this a bit but from memory your stuck at whatever resolution you zoomed to when saving the image data?
    All I've ever done is use garmin software at home and save a route linking up all areas of interest. Then out in the field you can get some idea of where to head if you're in new country.
