Thread: So, women's boot for a 'weekend warrior' type - Routeburn Track capable?

I have been asked to offer up my advice - oh haha me who uses basic cheap and often second hand whatever-I-can-gets that are still reasonably good (who me, buggered feet what hey?).

So, story is my sister who has ended up with DOC in an admin role has the thought of giving the Routeburn a go early next year. What would be a good comfortable boot for this sort of guided walk (I've never done one so really it's outside my experience - I mostly do day hunts/armed walks and off-farm excursions). Also I'm North Island so generally it's mud, cornflakes or greasy tree trunks...

Shes looking to get her fitness underway and into a set of good economical boots suitable fot this sort of trip... What should I be steering her into?

My Mrs is one of the smaller foot size ladies,she looked around and we eventually found a good boot in Kathmando and a price we could live with...my one big sticking point,most new tramping type boots have very little heel....that sucks big time going downhill in greasy conditions...we found boot with a reasonable heal and havent looked back...

Its not quite a walk in the park but Great walks are generally very well graded so you could even walk them in running shoes. My wife doesn't do tramping style walks but does like to walk in the woods and other easy areas, we just got her a pair walking sneakers brand new for $30 as end of line at Mountain Warehouse. You don't need big expensive boots on Great walks.

I have the men's version of these and found them pretty good. I'm not sure what they would be like carrying a load though.

my wife uses these too, she's done Mt Tarinaki summit & Routeburn and they're still going strong.

I wore a pair of lightweight Solomon low cut boots when I did the routeburn. As others have said you really don’t need anything flash, just make sure they are comfy.

Scarpa Terra GTX. A fantastic lightweight boot ideal for tramping. Recommend these to a couple of ladies who love them
