Stoney Creek Thermolite
Hi guys
Does anyone here have any experience with the Stoney Creek Thermolite puffer jacket? It's getting pretty cold and I want to get myself a down jacket that can handle some rough country. Is it more or less the same as a Macpac type garment or is it more durable?
Cheers
Dan

I just use a macpac one I got on sale.

There is a thermotough model
-
Most reports i’ve seen are dissatisfaction with its lack of breathability. People sweating in them even when still. Bulky and heavy, same with thermotough, good if you like a jacket that weighs a ton. Ok for rural type use but way better options for technical hunting jackets like macpac, RAB, Kuiu.

Wear on earth in Chch , hands down best value for money an locally made. Worth giving Blair a ring as he has more options than his website states. Went in last week ordered a hooded vest In tough material that’s full waterproof 700 loft down. Rang me back Friday and he’d made it already. Best $240 I’ve spent

Thanks for the input guys. Glad I asked before purchasing it. I'll be looking elsewhere now.

I brought a macpac on sale couple years ago, the only thing i wish i got was a shower proof jacket
-
My son got the thermolite and just getting firewood round camp he gets soaked with sweat on the inside.
They have bought out a couple of new models but bloody expensive
-
I could understand the new price if they were made here in NZ
-
The hooded wear on earth down jacket with waterproof outer shell is about as good as it gets, made in nz with Japanese and European materials and cheaper than most of the ‘premium’ Chinese manufactured shit.

Agree with comments above. I’ve had one for a few years- it’s great around camp or in the hut, but any degree of activity and you’ll be sweating like mad. Don’t breathe at all. I’ll chuck it on when I’m glassing too.
They’re also not actually down so they don’t pack down that small. I do like it and wear it heaps, but I wouldn’t buy another once this one has had enough.

Miserable bastard that I am.....[thought I would say it first..!!] I bought a three layer, 3/4 coat, full frontal zip plus domed buttons, heaps of pockets of different sizes for $99 at the House of W...[the Warehouse] with detachable hood....I am extremely pleased with it in all weathers, [could probably overnight in it if I got geographically embarassed]
One fault tho' the domes are metal and I do hear the odd click with the rifle so need to put some liquid rubber on them....

Another vote for wear on earth I went there after learning about it on the forum . So glad I did best puffer jacket I’ve owned and will be getting a new sleeping bag made by them to

Was the tough material extra or was it just the default?

Can chose either, same price
