Thread: Swarovski Z8i

Anyone have any experience with a Swarovski z8i 3.5-28x50 they would like to share? I currently have a VX5 and a VX6 and to me the Leupold dialing system looks far superior to the Swarovski version however the mag range on the Swaro is quite tempting. I haven't used a scope with that high of a magnification before so I'm wondering how finicky the exit pupil is on max settings, plus the quick detach for the scope turrets seems like an easy way to lose it given it's just a push button.

@dale has one my z8 is 2.5-18 x 56 and man it's awesome scope the dail up turret is probably better than the vx5 it is lockable and push button removable and can then be capped to stay as a standard scope.
I wish I had the dollars to buy another one.

Yeh I have 3.5-28x50 on a 300 prc. Definitely better glass than z5 and z6 and x5. The only down side would be at low light at full zoom it can’t quite pull in as much light as you would like, totally fine if 16-18 power just 28x is a little to much of an ask. I have used this scope on two rifles so far my old 7mm saum and my current 300prc, and have run it for about two years. I have never had a problem with it losing zero or dialling. And the eye box and field of view doesn’t really seem to change to much of become a problem when going though the zoom range. The second biggest down side to me would be the problem with only getting one turn out of the turret. However it’s still enough to get me just past 1000 yards so no need for any further from a hunting scope. I do really rate a vx5hd for value and what it offers in its price range it’s pretty hard to beat, agree that the vx5/vx6 dials better then a z5/6 but a z8 I’d rate nicer before moving to a dedicated target/tactical style scope. You'll never lose the turret as it pushes on then the collar around the bottom turns to lock it on it can't just pop off

I have two of them, one on a 270wsm and the other on a 300wsm. They dial perfectly, have great glass and awesome field of view. The eye box is generous and are actually a good size and weight for the offering. Big problem is once you go to that level, you don’t want to go back

You are right there it's very hard to use scopes of lesser quality

By the way, what are you guys using for a rangefinder? On one of the reviews for the Z8i I was watching he mentioned his rangefinder was able to output a solution in clicks for the scope which could have its merits, although it would rely on the calculation being accurate I guess.

My shooting app is set in clicks and you select the scope as z8 are .36 per click.

I use the Swarovski EL TA 10x42 binos. Very good system. Range the animal and the binos will tell you what to dial on your scope as well as the TBR range.
