I always make sure I have a safety pin in my emergency kit, handy for digging stuff out of your hands and has been used by a fat bastard(me) to hold my pants up after busting a button!

A couple of lengths of reinforcing tiewire
Plastic tape like insulation tape but double width - sellotape brand is best I've found.
Hand sanitiser for starting a fire
Rolltop drybag for storing sleeping bag in then stuffing clothes in to make a pillow at night
Spare cellphone battery in a ziplock bag

I've gone away from the spare phone battery thing and bought a battery pack to charge from, I got a Anker Astro3E 10000mAh job (imported for ~$70) which is probably overkill but I can get 4 charges from it from flat. Has the benefit of if I change phones I can just use the same pack and also I don't need to pull the back of my phone off which can be a bit of a front bum as it's got o-rings etc to keep it waterproof.
The one I have is 250 grams & about the size of a larger cell phone, so yeah fairly heavy but there's plenty of lighter smaller capacity ones out there. The problem with solar is it takes so bloody long to charge, tend to be fairly bulky and you need plenty of direct sunlight - at least with a battery bank you can charge your phone at night or in shitty weather.
comes with various adapters and a mesh storage bag

Where'd you get the Anker? Couldn't find any decent capacity ones in NZ.
I bought a Lenmar 7000mah. About 200-300grams. Nice compromise between keeping my iPhone (which has my GPS app on it) running for fricking ages, and not weighing too much. I'm a big fan. Could also use it to charge up a torch or something like that in a pinch.
Edit - never mind I see the answer to my question is in your original post the page before!
