    Thermal Scope report

As promised a report on the latest Brand of Thermal optics to hit NZ
I went for the iRay (infiRay) after I found out my Leica Calonox View handheld Thermal was internally a infiRay !!
Having used the Leica View for 5 – 6 months and it being the best Thermal I had had up until that time (Pulsar 2 Pro being the only Pulsar not field used myself) I did not hesitate to consider the iRay as a brand

The rifle Scope is the iRay RL42 model
Half the resolution of my Leica View but also half the price
Having seen great reviews online about the RL42 and the above experience with the Leica – I was not hesitant to go for this rifle mount.
After having it for a few days – field testing it and sighting in on 2 rifles etc – my expectation has lived up.
I personally cannot see another scope that compares for the money at this given time.

    Pros
    Menu easy to use
Focus dial on top much nicer to use than prior scopes
    QD rail is very good
Build quality is strong and quality
Button set up and design excellent (main menu button raised proud which is a great plus)
32 gig mem storage for Video – pictures
Compact (feels lighter than its 830grms)
Rangefinder add-on excellent and QD attach
    Price !!

    RL42 Scope 4495NZ$ (2 battery offer)
    RFL 550NZ$
    As a set $5000NZ$

    Cons
Front lens cap plastic and does not fit with rest of unit’s solid quality feel (but works fine)
Boot up – a bit slower than some others
Weight at 830 is up there compared to Pulsar Trail – but build is Alloy not plastic housing
    No sound with Video
Warranty 2 years but 5 years in USA (not sure what that is about)

Thanks for that write-up Sarvo. More food for thought.

Have you had a chance to save any video yet?

There is a short one of mine up top taken at 5.30 am moist conditions 3 morns ago
I will do more when weather permits

    Re weather
Lookout W Coast - Top of South and through middle N Island too
This front/belt of rain is coming all the way from Q Land so will hold a huge amount of moisture
We here in Sounds not meant to get heavy rain to later today
Well - just had to tip 125mm out of rain gauge already

    Update
I have just been offered RH50 Rico to Trial and test run

So I will let my RL42 with LRF go for cost @ 4995NZ$
The diff between the two - is
The RH50 has bigger aperture obviously - but it also has double the resolution
So it will be same as my Leica Calonox View (which is a 8000$ optic)

You will not be disappointed and to be perfectly honest (as I have tried all the Pulsar's) this is 2K below its Pulsar rival !!!
So - on here 1st before FB
