Patience is a virtue.... So I have been told. The axes I have ordered have been 2-3months, when ordering it says it could be longer. They are worth the wait
Just logged in planning to post an update, sorry about the wait... I asked Tuatahi last week if any updates. The answer was, no updates yet...
They got onto doing the first casting really quickly so it seemed they were going to push it through quickly, but maybe not.
Anyway, I'll keep onto them and let them know we have some keen buyers, including me...
They need to make a decision one way or the other, I’m holding off buying one of their camp axes on the basis I may prefer this..l
@Shelley just get them both... You know you want to!!
Hope we will get some updates soon. Ive registered here because of that Axe lol.
You can count me in for one. Going to order full "set" of axes so hoping this one will be avaible for sale soon also.
Going to buy Work axe (with wings), Camp axe and M tooth Work Saw. So I hope this Hatchet will be for sale soon so I can fill up my Tuatahi family.
Thanks! yeah shipping cost isnt cheap, last time ive talked with them for work axe order, shipping estimate cost was around 150 USD to my place, if I remember right. but Hey its freakin Tuatahi, name itself says number one, and in my opinion they work is best on the market and its worth to pay exta $$ for that quality stuff.
Now Im looking to make big order of Work axe, camp axe, their special covers and M tooth work saw, want to combaine shipping and if there will be hatchet Im gonna wait for it and make one big order..
For quality tools Im used to pay one time and that tool will do work for generations.
@Gruffle any progress yet?
Hey guys I want to ask one little help. Decided to post here as its thread ablout Tuatahi and their Axes and you guys know them and etc.
As Ive mentioned before I was going to order set of work tools from Tuatahi, so couodnt resist temptation and couldnt wait for their hatchet to be able for sale. Decided to make an order for their Work Axe (with wings) Camp Axe and M-Tooth Work Saw. yesterday Ive placed an order but havent got answer from them yet. Im going to pay via bank transfer and wrote them about it in note of my order and also emailed request for bank invoice. Havent recived any info from them yet, so before calling them decided to ask you guys to help me reaching them out as Im living in Georgia, Europe and calling to them is bit complicated for me.
So here is my order number #12710
My name is Aleksandre Sarjveladze
and contact email is mzovreteli13@gmail.com (which ive gave them and also with it ive emailed them)
Maybe my email got in spam or something like that so please any kind of help from you guys who live in NZ will be appriciated a lot. I just want them to reply answer my order, reply my email and give me an invoice so I can pay them as fast as posible, so they wouold proceed my order.
Thanks a lot in advance.
P.S
Not to stay off topic, waiting for their hatchet also, got some ca$h ready for it.
You have been red flagged

Weird, and why? dont I deserve to know, or get an aswer from them?
I mean if they are aware of anything or have any questions, shoudnt they answer my email and ask what they want to know?
Honstly I think that is how logical outcome should be. Looks like I will have to call them at friday if they wont answer my email today..
Well with Customer support like that I would be canceling my order , but hay thats just me .
Gidday - These guys are what most people would call a "cottage industry" and only work part time in their business. It might take them several days to address/clear orders, if you're patient I'm sure they'll get back to you. I think the "red flag" comment is probably a mis-understanding (on both sides). If you haven't heard from them in a few days PM me and I'll call them for you. Cheers Foster
Gidday all, I have emailed Stu at Tuatahi today to ask whether they are going to make the small axe or not. I told him we have a bunch of guys ready to order. It's surprising because they got onto the first casting so quickly, May 20. But no more updates. I think basically they are just a very small outfit and don't have enough manpower to turn stuff over quickly. Everything is hand forged and hand made in-house. I did get the invoice for my camp axe after 3 months and they tell me they'll ship it within about a month. They are a good bunch, but I'm feeling a bit guilty about raising people's hopes for this small axe if they can't come through....
OK, heard back, not good news unfortunately:
"We will be going ahead with a smaller axe but at the moment it is on the back burner for at least 12 months as we have some other projects on the go at the moment.
We are on the look out for a forging screw press, do you or your forum buddies know the whereabouts of any?
When I have an update I will be sure to let you know."
I have forwarded your details to Stu at Tuatahi, I'm sure they'll be in touch soon....

Thanks for the update. A bit disappointing, but no-one's fault; not Tuatahi's and certainly not yours so no need to feel guilty!
Personally, I probably won't wait because the 'at least 12 months' sounds pretty open ended to me. Also, I liked the specs and design you had outlined here and I think the longer the delay, the more likely the design will end up changing. Still, one to keep an eye out for in the future maybe.
well today I went searching for a 2 1/2lb boys axe....between tomahawk and normal axe.......handle somewhere around 600-700mm was interesting to say the least. drove into Timaru...went placemakers/none warehouse/none mitre 10 $50 and handle although ash was pour shape and had flaws, had looked online before leaving home...came home and looked again, only on trademe...can buy new and have delivered for not much more than half store price...and have options of wood or fibreglass handle.
want smaller axe for kindling...the Mrs to use...and for camping,in wagon etc.....my last one has dissapeared so time for new one.
Md good luck, I went hunting for a wooden handled big axe around invercargill, only option was farmlands - axe head casting looked bad, machine marks all over, handle was horrible shape. It would work but with a lot of reprofilig. 6shops later (garden centre and chainsaw shops all synthetic success at mitre 10, head was ok.... Handle needed less work, but a inferior bit of timber with grain and orientation.
Orders my first tuatahi after that trip!!?!
Don’t suppose anyone has a spare tuatahi handle? Just went to order a few, but they’re out of stock. I guess they’ve not had a shipment of hickory for a while.

Its pretty costy forging press like hydraulic one, in USA you can find one for aroun 4-5 thousand USD..
Importing one from USA or other country even china will face high fees Im afraid.. Damn thats worse situation than Ive expected but Im still ready to wait for their hatchet, because I believe in their quality.
My firewood Kelly has a handle that I have never seen before or since
Would buy a bunch of them if I could find some
Attachment 175189
thats a store bought replacement handle...both my axes are very similar, try the likes of mitre 10 and placemakers.
I have another 4 pound Kelly Perfect here but it’s got a Ferrous handle for the really extreme jobs that require as much as it can give, I stretched heater hose over the handle to cushion the shock a little
It fits in my pack with the winching gear
One day I will restore the head to original with a timber handle and put it on the wall

Nice nice and nice :)
Regret, the axes we were provided with as a forestry woodsman, hand sharpened & it took all of a half a dozen files & a heap of hours to achieve the right shape so as not to jam, finished with a oil stone. They knocked over 6 year old pines, thinning in a couple of blows, awesome fun. Was a traditional blast from the past, all of us enjoyed it. Offered to buy these axes at the time but 99% of us were, so impoverished at the time they were beyond reach. Looking back, hence the regret.
Have a couple other Kelly’s, and a ‘black prince’ Canadian. Had several others, but some other prick must’ve deserved them more.

Don't know whether, this Axe was bought like this or the grandfather who did some competition stuff, modified it. Attachment 175219
I won't be waiting 12 months for the Tuatahi small axe either, the deadline is a bit open ended for me....If they make one I'll certainly be interested, they are very good at what they do. In the meantime I'll probably buy a Husqvarna axe.
For anyone who is looking for smaller good quality axes at a fair price, I like the Husqvarna axes, they are sold widely in NZ in lawnmower shops etc.
The Husqvarna axe heads are made by Swedish Hults Burk, now owned by Hultafors, and Husqvarna sells them under their own brand. The heads ae very good, but apparently the handles can be a bit variable, and the way they are hung is not always perfect. But if you find a shop that has a few in stock you can sort through them and find a good one. Or take what you can find then re-hang it yourself.

Bloody lockdown now, so plenty of time for internet browsing but can't actually go to a physical
shop
In that case I would totally recommand Gransfors Bruk Axes, I dont know if you can find them in NZ but its widely avaible in Europe and therre are some re-sellers in USA. Axes are made in Sweden, from local steel and Gransfors Bruk forge is the oldest functioning one in Sweden. I personally do own several of their axes and love everything about them and have sold all my Husqvarna axes because Gransfors is way better in everything, steel, geometry, craftsmanship, handle material (grain) and ergonomics. Also Gransfors has huge variety of axes and traditional swedish cutting tools, here is my two cents about that subject.
Anyways 12 days has passed sience Ive placed my order on Tuatahi web-site, but sadly nobody contacted me yet, I've personally emailed them several times, also sent messags to their Facebook page but they just read it and no answer was sent back to me, also wrote message on one of their recent Facebook photos asking to answer me but still nobody reached me out, Ive also called them about 5 days ago or so, on their hot-line but there was only voicemail, so Ive left voice message them to send me an invoice for my order so I can pay via bank transfer, but nobody reached me out even after calling their contact number.
So please guys help me reaching them out, 12 days ago Ive placed an order for their Work Axe (with wings), Camp Axe and M-Tooth Work Saw, my order number is #12710 so please tell Stu or somebody who is responsible to answer me on my email (mzovreteli13@gmail.com also this email was used while placing an order).
Thanks guys!
Stay healthy.
not to start off-topic chat in your thread Ive sent an PM.
I dont understand whats wrong with me or why they dont want to deal with me, also I dont understand why they arent answering me, overall they simply can answer and say that they dont wanna deal with me and explain reasons...
