Got one sitting in a cupboard, not allowed it till Christmas.......
Reminds me of My grandad when I was a kid. Axeman who had several tuatahi axes. ( still top choice I think)As @Shelley says they had different purposes. He was known as someone who could punch a lot of wood and preferred the bigger block to account for his handicap.
I like their throwing model.
It reminds me of my ancestors :-)

Here's Jason Wynyard. Best Axeman my grandad and his mates have ever seen.
Look at how much wood he's punching to take that block. Not many blows in the back of that one.
With a tuatahi, naturally
No doubt...
Loved to watch those dudes, the shearing and the dog trials.
Old skool country competition. Dog trialing used to be a main tv showing...fascinating
There one for sale on Facebook. 64 banana what ever that means. $600. Waikato.
They are now doing a smaller (and cheaper) camp axe.... bugger would have suited my uses more but that's life!
Anyone had a go at sharpening theirs? I know you can get the jig and stones but dont think I will be using it enough to justify the cost. Haven't damaged it at all yet and can still easily shave with it but wondering for how long
I put the head edge up in the vice and use a sharpening stone

Will add to this thread rather than start a new one....
Has anyone had a go at re shaping one of their China head into a splitter? Using a fiskars x25 or x27 depending on ring size. While there is nothing wrong with them I'd prefer to use a wooden handle (and they would match in my axe case)
Sounds like they used to do it but are too busy these days. Anyone got a bench grinder and a bit of spare time to hang it on one of their handles??
