    Twin burner cookers

Hi all, just wondering what you use for a car camping cooker. Any such thing as a twin burner for two pots or pans with the option for a hot plate to convert to a bbq style?

    Cheers

@BruntyHunt These are available all the time...but not necessarily with the BBQ plate.

Canisters are cheap and no need for a bulky bottle to try and pack in somewhere.

I use what Kiwi sapper posted. Have done for years for jetboat or fly-in trips.
Get or make a good hotplate and a decent fry pan with some billys and you can pretty much cater for anything.
2.5 KG bottle has heaps left in it after a week in the hills cooking for 3 or 4 people even at high elevation.

The feet that come with them are shit so fit some long post bolts at the corners and you're away laughin. We even cooked a large meal inside the tent with a floor last week while it was pissing down. Floor didnt even get warm.

We ate pretty well in there. Not many people would have had whitebait or cheese burgers way up on the side of a mountain

I've got one of these, it's awesome for fly in trips, can do all the usual stuff, and have a BBQ breakfast every morning

For a car camper I made myself a 'Chuck Box' type set up with cooker and gas bottle fixed inside the box. The lid hinges back to make a serving table, front drops to make a prep bench, has frypan, two pots, cutlery, cups, plates, paper towel holder etc etc all in the box. Works extremely well. Bit of a labour of love to build, but was a good lock down project.

I saw a cooking programme years ago where Nigella lawson was cooking in her kitchen, and had an Island benchtop. Inset into the benchtop were two of those cast iron double burners that kiwi sapper has linked to. So they are pretty bloody good if a chef is happy to use them.

But the single version of Ryan's should be a must in all kiwi households for emergencies. $20 bucks on special from Bunnings, and a bundle of 4 gas containers for $5. Can't beat that. Half of Viet Nam cooks on them

I've been called out to serious burn incidents involving those things. I wouldn't use one after some of the things I'v seen.
My one has a BBQ plate that came with it which covers the whole entire thing....

@XR500 Funny; I was talking to someone who'd just had a $26k kitchen fitted. Then they said that the best meal they'd ever eaten was in some remote shack somewhere in Asia. I had a chuckle thinking that the "best meal" was probably cooked on a single gas ring in a simple wok or pan..... Probably no $26k kitchen in sight...........

I have the single burner unit, purchased from The Warehouse in stainless. https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/gas...cooker&start=1
Be aware that the case that they come in is crap and will probably break first time out. They are all the same.

However, Bunnings have a space case that is a perfect fit for the cooker and a spare can of gas. I think this is the correct one.... https://www.bunnings.co.nz/craftrigh...175mm_p5810252

Nice neat fit and you can stack whatever you want on it and know that the cooker is safe.
