I bought one of those to replace my dead inflator. They work well but are too bulky for leaving in the ute just for the occasional top up. Its better suited for someone who is regularly 4wding and need to top up the tyres at the end of the day.

If bulk (and budget) is an issue, try something like this. I 'made' one for my bike. Couldn't be arsed with making a new cover, just ripped of the plastic housing, shortened the hose to the gauge, and wrapped it up in a lightly oiled rag - about 1/4 the size. You just have to hold it very carefully when using it:

Might need to extend the batt connection wires or the hose if using it on a 4x4.
