    The 5W versions will certainly give you a bit more punch but they're still line of sight.

    I prefer the Uniden radios myself but the GME radios are just as good, are generally cheaper and I hear their repair service is better. I've not had any occasion to use the Uniden repair service so I can't comment either way. Then there's the Garmin Rhino's, which are also good but I think their menu navigation is hard work. On the plus side, all of these units are frequency compatible.

    I look forward to hearing from a couple of the others. @gadgetman ?
