Hey guys, been sitting at a bait site watching Hyena last few nights & no moon right now but can see them well with the hand held thermal, cant put any light on or gone, after they had had a fight & left, I thought if only I could see though the scope & stuck the thermal on the front of the scope & had a grainy pic AND see cross hairs !
Any one tried shooting like this ?
Don’t want to blow weeks of waiting or wound one !
Switch to a red dot.
In what way, do aim point with thermal in front ?
As I have tried the red dot scope & will use that when the moon gets here but only have a few days off now !

Thermal would need to be in front the red dot may be better than a magnifying scope but i think you may need three hands with 6 fingers on each one to work everything.
Yes I think a dot/aim/pro point scope with no magnification would be better & yes more hands would be good (when is this not the case ?) I have the rifle on a sting tied to a branch above the hide (saves any movement & rifle is ready) & it is tricky but I think doable !
Don’t have any aim point type scopes here right now, will try tonight .
Interesting thread for the Waikato .... not sure about the scope, might need to change countries, or if you are seeing hyenas in Waikato maybe check with your doc for a change to the meds haha :wtfsmilie:
Buy a pulsar thermal forward attachment,can be used as a handheld or clip of front of scope.7k will get you one.:oh noes:
Yeah I shot out all the Waikato Hyena & had to travel farther afield !

He had some problems already limping on two legs & glowing double the heat signature of others I have seen !
I think I lured in a new one as I shoot a small warthog & carried half dragged him 2-3 km from a water source along a two track & I think he followed the trail in, normally come in 8:30-9:30 & this guy was 12:40am !
Need another plan !
Plan A shoot in moon - great but moon gone as working then.
Plan B Shoot with light - haha never gone like lightning.
Plan C shoot with hand held laser on chest while look with thermal then other guy shoots laser with dot scope fail.
Plan D same but with night vision hand held, this might work but lost helper & Hyena see the infer red !
Plan E was here & fail again !!
I can confirm that there are no hyenas left in the Waikato, but you left plenty of moles and bushpigs. I suggest using yourself as bait then wrangle the bugger when he gets close.Quote:
