    Vac-Pac all the things...

I have been doing a bit of trial and error vac-packing leftover meals etc and freezing them for later use whilst in the hills. This is an awesome way to habe decent food while youre away backpack hunting. So far I have learned that you will need to use decent bags to handle the heat of reheating without deteriorating. I have vac packed everything from mince and chilli for nachos/wraps, to left over roast veges complete with slices of roast beef and gravy etc. Today Im sitting at home crook and decided to see how a cheese toasty would go. I toasted the bread first to prevent it just turning to dough again when vacpacked, bit of cheese and some ham and good to go. Reheated it in my primus "jetboil" and it came out good as, cheese melted all the way through and it wasnt just a flat mess due to toasting the bread first. You can make a cuppa with the water after too Give it a go. As "Nats what I reckon" would say (look him up if you dont know who he is .. brilliant!)

I keep a set of vac packed thermals in my pack as an emergency set so I can guarantee to have a clean, dry set.

Yeah I've been doing the same thing. The other day I did an online search for pouches like the back country mash spud comes in which you can buy.
I reacon these would work well.

I own 2 vacuum packing machines and use them a lot for day to day food storage. Extends the shelf life of fresh produce by heaps.
One of my machines also has the ability to plug into 12v ciggy lighter, so can be used in the car or on the boat to give ultra fresh wild food.
I like the idea of a toasty on the hill

Some leftovers from tonights dinner, that whole plate is what went in the bag, meat was a 1.5" thick ribeye I sliced up, some spuds, mix veg, and mushroom and onions fried in butter for the steak. Throw a blob of butter in the bag and presto! Thats my dinner next overnighter I do. Takes about 6 mins of simmer and that will be piping hot
