    Walking poles

Hi all looking at getting a pair of walking poles and not sure what’s a good option, want something light weight but not expensive. Any recommendations out there?

    Cheers

I was in the same boat as you.
So I went to hunting ang fishing and sussed out different brands and styles. Drew my own conclusions from what I was looking at. I'll be able to snap a flash one just as well as a cheap one.
Can't remember the exact price but I think I paid about forty bucks each for reasonably sturdy alloy ones.

In the market too as my old alloy one is on its last leg.

Leki makulu. Best poles around, light, strong, comfortable, fold down really short which is good for stowing in your pack when on final stalk

I've absolutely battered my black diamond trail sport poles and they are still going hard (all aluminium) ~$159

I have used walking poles for the last 25 years and currently own 3 pairs. A pair of carbon fibre Ali Express jobs, A pair of Oz Trail alloy ones and a pair of Leki micro vario carbon poles. The Ali express ones cost about $45/pair 10 or so years ago. The Oz Trails (retailed $120) cost me $10 second hand and the Lekis (retail $375) cost me $30 at a work auction. To be honest, when I am using them I can't really tell the difference between them. Each has a different grip but all are comfortable and I haven't managed to break any of them yet, although I have had the locking mechanism fail on others in the past. My advice is, above all else, buy some with a cam lock rather than twist lock or folding. It is by far the best system.

Agree with getting cam lock. I use a single carbon pole and it's great. It is twist lock and I have had it jam a couple of times. Must get a bit of shit in it and jam tight. So them your pole is extended till you get home. Had to hold it in the vice and twist with pollygrips. None the worse for it but annoying if you need to pack it away.

I have just started using them, they really make a difference i reckon.

Mine are carbon fibre, cam locks & cork handles ($140 for the pair)
