    walking poles

Ok I'll admit that lately when in the open Yep I've been using one.
Have a bung ankle full of screws.
I've found it really good, made me a lot faster and walked a lot further.
It's no brand just an old ski pole I had in the shed.

I used one for the first time a few weeks ago. My pack was heavy and it was a 50km round trip so thought it might help the knees on the down hill sections.
I reality i used it pretty much all the time. On slippery sections it was almost having 4 wheel drive. Great support when standing up and taking the weight of the pack.
will be part of my must have kit from now on.
Hunting is relaxing just like Yoga except I get to kill something.
If it Flies it dies and if it hops it drops.

I've got one that can be used as a monopod for camera/shooting stick/binocular rest. Can't say how good it is as I haven't actually used it. Cost me nothing, let me know it you want to take it for a walk.

On those greasy slopes in the bush where the trees are too far apart I could see use for a stick with a small pick and adze head like the old ice axes.

I have a pair of Macpac carbon fibre poles which weigh bugger all. Give a good boost to walking efficiency when you have a long way to go with a heavy pack.

I decided I'd add one to my hunting plant so got a cobber to grab me some long lengths of manuka from his upcountry home. Added a piece of "y"timber to the top of it and bravo ,bloody excellent-support ,carrying device, prober ,you name it and 100%organic.
the others Ive used for a shovel handle on the truck shovel and a rather natty wee knockout billy club!
Ive had a few lower leg probs over the years so find some terrain a little challenging when out duckshooting but the pole helps-bloody good for checking the depth of water in lakes streams etc before i lumber through.

Yeh i realised that my 1500$ xbolt as a walk stick was a bad idea so bought an 80$ proper one today-try next weekend.

I used one that had the thread on the top for a camera it extended out quite long . Used it a few times for shooting off when in tussock , with good results every time . Also as someone mentioned as a support for binos when glassing , really good for that , I really rated it . I should get another now I've got a new camera . May even get used for a walking stick this time .

Got 2 buggered knees and 1 stuffed ankle tendon. I use 2 poles all the time on bush hunts now and couldn't hunt rough country without them. Cork handled telescoping ones available at most h&f SHOPS FOR ABOUT $40 EACH.. I don't use them on bird hunts where risks of a fall are minimal, but they simply take a huge load off your legs allowing you to take a lot of it on your arms and also provide security of balance. This alone has saved my butt more than once.
