    Warm winter sleepingbag

Love my macpac down but finding it too cold for winter even with a liner. Any recommendations for a winter sleeping bag that also packs down ok??!!

Oneplanet Cocoon with 850+ fill or higher.
Best warmth/weight/size/price that I could find in NZ.

What weight and type of down is your sleeping bag? Weight is in grams and type of down is usually the loft. For example my bag is a 400gram 800 loft bag. The more weight and higher the loft the warmer the bag will be.
For a winter bag I would be looking for a minimum of 600 gram of 800 loft down.

I have a one planet which is pretty good. I think it is a minus 4 rated bag. my mate got a minus 10 and said it is too hot. A minus 7 would probably be a good compromise.

love my macpac 650 bag...warm as toast with basic liner...BIG TIP HERE...get into bag while warm...or add warmth via bottle of warm water etc.....get in cold and you still have to warm up...get in warm and you stay warm.

Just let me check... rifle, knife , bullets, and hot water bottle. Not joking. Old hunting mate used to take one into scrub. Swore by it. Man he got some deer.

My dad, who mustered and culled over a fair bit of the Sth Is high country in the late 1940s, including a very cold winter of shooting in the aptly named Siberia Valley in 1951 or 52 when the river froze, reckoned he carried pyjamas, and that a key to staying warm was to get out of your wet (wether from rain or perspiration) clothes at night.

I have the Macpac dusk, 400down 600 loft. Seems like it's too light from reading above and love the hot water bottle idea. Thanks 🙏

you can really boost things with an old school bag liner...single flanelette sheet folded in half and sown across bottom and down the edge.... weighs a bit and takes up a bit of room...but man does it make things warm LOL.
