My plan is to do a walk/armed tramp with the wife, loop through Kawekas/Kaimanawas.
Reckon the bag or other stuff in compression dry bag will enable me to carry a bit more without requiring a bigger pack.
I am pretty happy with the 50l exped I have.
Do not intend to bushbash with it.
Strap it below pack or just on top depending on how open.

I understand the desire to stay with as small a pack as possible for freedom of movement. But with a sleeping bag stored on the outside of the pack, its only a matter of when, not if, the sleeping bag gets damaged and or wet.
I did a 9 day armed tramp from Napier to Taupo many moons ago. About May from memory. Used all of the 80 litres in my pack at that time.
