Thread: Waterproof jacket

I'm looking at upgrading my jacket and just wondering what everyone else is using,I've currently got a military DPM milair jacket its windproof/(waterproof to an extent) but rather noisy when bush stalking,any suggestions???

For a quiet waterproof bush stalking jacket I'd recommend the Kagoule. The outer fabric is soft and quiet.

I love my Swazi Tahr. Its bloody bomb proof and its got the soft outer similar to the Kagoule for bush stalking. Seems to be a heap of lightly used ones popping up on trademe at the moment for great prices to. Think theres a comprehensive review on it on here somewhere.

+1 for the old Swazi Tahr, the other one I’d also recommend is Stoney Creek Glaisnock or Stillwater or the new Tundra

Always rated my Swazi tahr, besides one point.....
It's like it's designed for a person with a tiny neck, like when you've got the hood on you can feel it pulling on year head, and when you've got a pack on with the hood on you get a sore neck every time

German army Flektarn Jacket is me now - breaths better than others I have

Used my Thar Wapiti yesterday - home wet - not from rain - but sweat
So all my flash coats/jackets now used on Quad or boat, not for bush bashing or uphill hauling

The Flektarn jacket cost me $60 with salopette pants
Ordered 2 more Jackets without salopettes - leave one in Quad glovebox and another on boat
$35 each
They roll up and easy fit in day pack - weigh 600grms

Had one of these Flektarn jackets for years ok in showers but not something I’d rely on in the hills to stay dry

Always a trade off when wanting waterproof and not noisy, new camo pattern stoneycreek stowit for me.

Good price point and does the job, get it big enough so you can layer up underneath. Lived in mine for 7 days in fiordland and recommend.

Might be getting too old (your Flektarn not you :-)
I had another ex Military (US NATO) jacket and still have it and was 100% waterproof - but not now at 12-15 years old
ALL the Gore-Tex fabrics start letting in water once old or become over soiled etc
But I more talking about this 4-600$ stuff that does not breath - for me - perhaps I just a heavy vapour letter outer - but cannot see the point in spending all that dosh on a coat
Better to go towards a rifle or optic - ALL jackets end up in the bin "oneday"

I'm also happy with my German army flektarn jacket. It is made from sympatex and is softer than my NZ army jacket, so it is less noisy and rolls up smaller but is just as waterproof.

I’d be keen on one of these for day missions if you get any more

i have got this jacket, a gift from someone, its military standard and its water/windproof and it is not noisy, once back home ill send a picture of it. love it.
