Thread: Waterproof Jacket - Ridgeline Monsoon vs Swazi Tahr/Kagoule

Merry Christmas Team!
Just tossing up options for a new Waterproof Jacket.
Seriously thinking about the Swazi Tahr or Kagoule, but they're twice the price of the Ridgeline Monsoon.
Worth the extra money for the Swazi? or just stick with the Ridgeline?
Whats the peoples verdict?

I’ve got a swazi tahr xp. Heavy jacket and doesn’t breathe very well but it’s tough as and very warm. I like the anorak fit too.

Swazi have a new jacket coming out in 2024 but been told its a few months away.
but value for money and 3yr warranty i would be looking at the huntech Tussock on sale at the moment

You would be just as well off buying a jacket from Wish than buy a Ridgeline.

If you're looking at spending decent amount of coin (Tahr XP currently around $520?) You should seriously consider a cactus rain jacket. Bomb proof and 100% waterproof and breathable, or if you want something slightly lighter (but not quite as tough) its hard to go past a Earth Sea Sky Hydrophobia. I have a few Swazi Tahr's and they are nothing more than a decent windproof layer really, the waterproofing lasts about 2hrs from.new and after that they just soak up water and take ages to dry out.

My experience also - having worn a Tahr hundreds of times in the central North Island plateau where the rain and sleet travels horizontally

Had 3 cause they are cheap. Generally they either leak after 6 months or fall apart ( or both). But they are cheap enough and make a good windproof layer.

My last job supplied these, ok but did wet out fairly quickly.

I have a Hunter Element Halo instead almost same design but so far a better top.

Cheap, light and pack down small. Ive got the top of the line stillwater jacket and its heavy and soaks it all up

I’ve got the Kagoule, like the fit and warmth but shit they soak up water. Ends up sitting round your arse and sleeve ends.
I find it breaths ok for me. If I did it again I’d buy dedicated rain jacket. Cactus or Hydrophobia.

After that clown that owns Swazi threw shooters under the bus and backed the govt gun ban etc, I am very surprised any shooter buys Swazi.
I certainly won't be supporting them in any way, shape, or form.
