Yep.... +1 on the headlamp.
Around here I always take/wear instep crampons - stops you from slipping on the slippery tussocks.
My daypack has the knife and rangefinder always attached and ready to go. Often carry a UHF radio too, especially if hunting with others.
I don't carry a compass around here as I think its impossible to get lost in these hills but I certainly carry one in the North Island and in Fiordland.
