Where you buying your Spyderco knives from?

    Hey you'll,

In the market for a new Spyderco blade. I sent Spyderco an email a couple weeks ago to see who their authorized retailers or distributor was here in NZ as they arn't shipping here, though I haven't heard back yet?

I've seen a few Chinese knock offs getting around, and some are pretty (scary) close counterfits and I don't want to pay good coin for a fake one, so thought I'd ask here first.

There's a couple of places in Auckland that stock the range, both have mixed reviews so wasn't sure if they're any good to deal with. Both of these retailers aren't featured on the dealer locator on Spydercos website? But the Australian ones are... so was a little sus on that, as the Australian distributor doesn't supply anyone here. I can import from Australia and possibly the States but I would prefer to buy a ligit one local as not sure on importing blades here.

    Any info appreciated.

    Cheers!

Blademaster in NZ were fine to deal with.
I brought a Spyderco from Deadwood knives in the states and they were great to deal with.

knifecentre.com I have found to be the cheapest with regards to knives and shipping.
Spydercos will generally come in without any hassle whatsoever.

Do you think I'd have a problem bringing in a paramilitary 2 and a Para 3 LW through customs? They are obviously legal here as they're sold within NZ 's retailers... But it would be an expensive venture if someone on the boarder was having a crap day.

    Cheers

I doubt you will have any problems but I don't have much experience in this area. I brought in a Spyderco Yojimbo2 and it turned up quickly and without any hassles.

They sure have got some sweet stuff and at good prices. What was the turnaround time like? Hopefully they still send here.

Sweet thanks @Tahr, they're definitely not automatic, spring assisted, button released and self ejecting blades. But the nature of the locking mechanism, means the blade can be deployed by inertia while holding the lock bar open I believe, though they are still considered a folding knife. I'm just not sure how this sits in the scheme of things.

Edit: Looks like all good as @viper Spyderco Yojimbo2 has a similar locking mechanism.

    Cheers guys!

I made contact with the shop ( Deadwood Knives ) just to make sure they shipped to NZ. They came back to me quickly and also gave me a code for half price shipping which was great as they didn't need to do that.
Once I had ordered it was here just over a week from memory.
This was all before the Covid thing though so things might have changed and you could always flick them an email to confirm things.
My Yojimbo will have the same locking mechanism as the Para's I would think so you shouldn't have a problem there.
Multiple ways to open the blade, check out a Spydy drop as another method.... high fidget factor.
Shaman is another highly rated model worth checking out. Good luck.

In Auckland - Top Gear used to have all the ones I wanted to see. I think they have 173 on their site currently.
