Thread: wide boot recomendations

Hi All after recommendations for wide fitting boots.

I currently have a pair of Grisports but havent been able to get a one of my feet use to them and I still getting blisters not matter what socks/ lacing etc I go with

Prior pair of boots were Asolo TPS wides and I liked these but had the sole separate and come away, might go back to these yet.

For NI bush I am currently using a pair of trail runners (altra lone peaks with zero drop) but wanting to do a bit in the Ruahines so after a more robust boot. Altra do a pair of boots but are light construction and may not hold up to NZ river/bush/slip bashing?

Feet are size 12Uk typical barefoot kiwi wide, my left foot is ~ 1 size smaller and legs 1-2inchs shorter due to birth defect, makes walking around hills one direction easy.... but getting a good fit in boots a bit harder.

In Whakatane so limited to shops to go and try them on, will head over Tauranga or Rotorua if I know the shops over there carry what I am looking for.

Hi, same problem and just imported another pair of jim Green boots from South Africa, wide fit and cant beat the price. Lots of reviews you can look at

Rotorua has very little since Outdoor HQ closed its doors. I bought my last pair of boots (Salewa) from Trek n Travel, Victoria Street, Hamilton. They had a large boot display in store. Worth phoning them I reckon.

Cripsi Colorado's can only import from the usa

Everyone I know who uses Crispi has raved about them. I’m currently trying a pair of Lowa Renegades which have a nice wide fit and if anything would be a bit sloppy if you’re not a genuine wide foot. They are going ok so far.

skellerup ashleys with thin pair of innersoles and gaiters over the top..... you wont look back for stalking..carting heavy loads for hour upon hour maybe...but for day trips stalking you will be in bliss..... colder weather or wet days especially so.

Planning multiday trip, up down mountains with pack on back, not sure if my 53 year old kneezzzs are up to lace up gumboots anymore,

Same Heard good things on teh Crsipi but also heard they are narrow, Hunting and fishing carry them so might go and try on a pair, I think they also have the Lowas as well

I had Lowas, thinking they were the bees knees. Soles disintegrated. Salesman told me it was through lack of use. Phtt! Never again. My Salewas are extremely comfy, but appear quite a narrow fit. One son who served for over twenty years, with multiple deployments chose Salewa as he found them the best boot he’s ever worn.

My Lowa's Tibets soles fell to bits to.....after over 20 years use!

Had the same problem with wide feet, the only ones I have real success with are the Meindl Gruffet. NZ agent is a rip, and don’t appear in many retail stores. Hunt around online for a reasonable deal.

Have heard good things about the Chrispi boots but never tried.

What you described about the other boots, I have had the exact same problems.

Based on my previous experience, my advice is to get hold of bootsngear (previously EZDirect) in Taupo and make an appointment. I tried on around 10 different boots, and after some very good advice bought a pair of Bestards. I have fairly wide feet, and haven't had a time when i regretted wearing these boots ever. They've been extremely robust and comfortable in all conditions, I'll definitely be replacing with the same when these eventually wear out. I found the service to be excellent and them to be most helpful in finding the right boot.

Give the American Jungle Boot a thought. Ensure they have the Panama sole. Have used them for some years (Fiordland, Stewart Island, Westland) never had any probs with them. they come in wide sizes
