Yes John, that's a very reasonable approach about the edge profile. Some people simply shouldn't fiddle with knive edges and leave what you provide them with well alone. :)
A good v edge can do all that is required.

yes people dont realize what a lazer a convex edge can be
A fine shallow angle vee and microbevel is the equal or better of a convex IMHO , tho neither done properly will handel abuse most owners will dish out hence most "factory" knives with a steep vee.
Sorry John, no disrespect meant, in fact just the opposite, too much time spent in court maybe...
But getting back to that knife you made HGD, I really like it, I thought, mistakenly that you just used stainless, but O1 is my favourite steel and the recurve is my favourite shape, would you be able to tell us a little more about that particular knife, size and thickness would be good to know, oh and the wood looks amazing whatever it is.
hi shelley the knife is 1/8 o1 steel the design was sent to me from hamish (hgd design) its designed by him to fit his hand.its about a four inch blade and handle approx 23mm wide .it is made exactly as hamish drew it so pin and thong hole placement are his. the wood is a book shelf that had nice grain brought at a garage sale and chopped up for handles a little bit soft.hope this helps
cheers john
veitnamcam try this sharpen a knife with your edge and try to cut a half circle in and out from the side of a sheet of a4 paper.then try with a good convex edge let me know the result
cheers john
I have some video of the knife; I'll splice it together over the weekend.
Thanks John, can you get thicker O1? I have a design in mind (very original handle material, old shelves, nice).
Tahr, here's a hint: I dont sit in the dock...
Craigc that would be beaut!
