I assume they have to be strapped to the outside of one's pack.
Which means if you're tramping in rain or wet bush, the wet sleeping pad would go into the tent and against the down sleeping bag, which for me is a no-no.

Sea to Summit seems a very good inflatable, and they have an inflation sack for rapid inflation.
