The 2013 game bird season was my most successful so far in terms of birds shot and enjoyment. We only shot the Saturday of opening weekend and spent Sunday plucking. I think next year I will book Monday/ Tuesday off work to clean up.
We shot the shortest day June 22 nd , one hunt in July and closing Saturday. We had three cracks on Ellesmere throughout the season for fairly limited success. The total was 285 mallards 33 paradise ducks , 6 black swans and one Canadian goose. The freezer is full of plucked drakes and I have 72 kegs of sausages in the freezer also. Duck, swan and wild ports a great mix with garlic thrown in. The time spent on mai mai prep , endless hours hand painting decoys and the auto feeder on two ponds paid massive dividends. Thanks must go to Paul Stenning too as I picked his brain a couple of times.
Every time we hit the pond we got a boil up going three days prior. Good times with good mates. Roll on 2014
