Thinking of getting a small inflatable boat or kayak for this duck season. I would have other uses for it too. Quite fancy quietly drifting down the river "stalking" ducks. Anyone do this? Worth it? I am aware of the F&G rules.

I'd take up duckshooting if i could do it this way.

I shot ducks for years drifting on the Waikato river, mainly from Cambridge to Hamilton, better with two people, shooter in the bow and second person with oars to keep the boat straight. It was better when the river was a bit higher and there was water under the willows, even better with a good dog on the bank. Nice quiet relaxing way to hunt
yes many heaps of them....check regulations as most places its out for opening weekend...trick is to try to shoot over front...NOT out to the side unless you fancy trying an eskimo roll between barrels......a fat /wide boat is best....my 2 man kayak is perfect for me...and sometimes the dog...
Canadian canoe, small sit on kayak,12ft Parkercraft with scissor blind,4.6m Fyran for firth of Thames in th3 rough weather,so yep,I shoot from boats, also have a maimai to shoot on big public lake but probably will shoot from the parkercraft on opening as access to the maimai will be limit3d due to water levels.
I will be soon enough![]()
Yep I have a 2 man Canadian canoe its brilliant for floating down rivers (not allowed on opening)....very productive.
Mate I've got both options I enjoy diversifying the way I hunt waterfowl. I helps have a large tidal estuary at my back door
