    Breeding Quail Or partridge

Ive got a Mate (None shooter , retired at 39 and board as F@$k ). He's a bit weird, and loves game birds ,& wants to breed some . ?? he's fanatical and if he decides he wants to do it he will succeed . Id love him to do quail as i'd like to put a covey here and there (public land) and see if they take off (excuse the pun ) . Obviously Quail are a acclimatised bird , so there are permits etc . (are they easy/hard to get ). If not can he bread Red Legs with out the paperwork . ( got a place in mind for them)
Any Advice or links to game bird sellers etc would be appreciated . This may not happen but I'm sure like to help him out while he's still keen

Put him onto Chukar. I spent endless hours last year trying to track them down for breeding purposes. All to no avail. They are meatier and heavier then the red legged partridge.

He will get the run around from DOC and F&G with no one wanting to put their sack on the line to give a definitive answer. Deliberate releases for the purpose of hunting seem to be a clear no no without permits/consents etc.

Seems from my research keeping a small breeding group for your own enjoyment is fine.

I never got far down the red legged option, but the main Cali breeder is Woodlands, approx $20-25/bird from memory.

Californian quail Many property owners may already have a population of Californian quail however an introduction of new stock is always an advantage and will create more vigour in the wild population.

Red legged partridge Red Legged Partridge
Partridge habitat is similar to pheasant; however they can and do survive well in drier conditions. They tend to pair off in the breeding season regrouping later in the winter; when it is a magnificent sight to see a covey of red legs gliding down hill. Their feeding habits and diet are very similar to that of the pheasant and quail. Demand for 'Woodfield' partridge is very high.

    Price: Partridge - $23.00 each.
