    Canadian Huns

Friend not long home from trip to Saskatchewan; these a just a couple of photos he sent me of the Hungarian Partridge aka Gray Partridge, he shot...the temperature at the time was -17C...the birds were, according to him, delicious!!

    Aren't they just gorgeous!!

Link to hear what they sound like...http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/g...rtridge/sounds

Hungarian partridge is my favourite upland game bird but their numbers are pretty low in my corner of the country so your pal ought to consider himself pretty lucky!

JayColli, are the ruffed grouse hard to hunt...I did hear one when I was in Manitoba but did not get to see him...amazing sound!!

I've found spruce grouse quite easy to hunt because they will often pick the tallest conifer around and sit up top drumming away. Ruffed grouse are more difficult to locate but generally pretty nonchalant about being approached by hunters so you can just follow them through the under brush until a good shot presents itself.

Thank you for that; very interesting! You stated in another thread about the hare season...the hare we have here, is the European hare first introduced in 1851 and is deemed a pest, albeit a delicious one!! Cannot imagine having a hunting season on them!!

What size shot would you use on the grouse?
