    Practice in a park (calling not shooting them) while feeding ducks take a loaf of bread.
    You can then listen to what there calls are and imitate them
    It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
    I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

    I use bakail u/o as it came from factory....tight and half......what we do is use loads of less than 32grms and keep to smaller than size #3 shot to prevent bridging in chokes.... 30 grm loads are awesome if you can find them.

    ive got a baikal o/u from a mate of GSPFs and myself .he had chokes opened up for steel by gunsmith IIRC round$80.00 per barrel.my standard load (steel)is 2 3/4"32gm no3&4.
    for geese I switch to the escort semi 3"no3 on a IC choke
    .Baikal does the job well on geese too more than one fat albert feral met my dentures from being late getting airborne after snoozing in the sun!
    AS mooted ideally ask round see if you can locate someone who'd be kind enough to take you out a few times and show you the ropes .I did this wheNi started gooseshooting -hooked myself up to GSPFand its still bloody great fun even a decade later.
    nowt wrong with second hand kit either .be aware though ,the tendency develops to get a little more gear every season.I could fill a shed with mine.

Go for quality over quantity for decoys( @Dundee will tell you a trick on riging them ). For a duck call get duck commander ole raspy for $40 and practise all you need is three quacks ( you can play round with ole raspy and get quite a good parrie call with it.
    For feed you can just pick up or rake acorns pretty into a bag. Im a crazy young fulla and pick them up and put them in the freezer and bring them out at the end of the season when there's not as much feed around.

    @Russian 22. have you checked it's interchoke?

    It looks like it will take Remington 870 chokes. If so this would be ok as it gives you the key and a 1/4 choke.

    @Russian 22. check out the thread game bird diary for all on here.The little ponds that are shallow are mainly night feed ponds only need a couple of decoys bigger ponds you will need a few more.Some good advice on here already ducks always land into the wind. Bigger ponds have eels like @FatLabrador hinted for me to comment.A small line and a big hook under the decoys will keep the decoys moving with a bit of bait of course and this way thee eels get off after having a chew and swimming your decoys naturaly...beats paying for motorized decoys unless your rich.I could send you a caller but if you don't know how to call I may as well send my didgeridoo. Best of luck listen to the birds prior to the season and try to imitate there calls.

    Dundee...all is not lost Bud. a few years back my boss wouldnt give me opening morning off so I had to work it. (quit job soon after) I got out to lake at lunchtime after super super quick record breaking run around the shops in milk truck...amazing how fast you can do job when you "double load" fridges the day before....
    anyway the lads had left canoe on shore for me...I spotted some mallards loafing in wee bay and shot two of them on way over to island then picked up two more off shoreline while walking around to lads in maimai....they had managed 3 for morning LOL a late start didnt hold me back...fair pissed me off but didnt matter as by end of weekend the tally was on par with other years.

    BREAKING NEWS FROM FISH AND GAME

    The 2018 season has been moved to the second weekend in May. This will bring it in line with whitbaiting and other short season regulations. However the main driving force behind the change was the well put together document received from @Dundee and oraki explaining that they would miss this years opening, and requested it be put back 7 days. We decided in their favour.
